Network Engineer - TAC
Supports NOC as first point of escalation for network issues and performs projects and tasks in conjunction with network
engineering groups.
Technical Excellence


*Uses knowledge associated with Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
*Minimum of 3-5 years directly related experience.
*A working knowledge of either OSPF or ISIS, plus BGP; experience with internet topology and routing; experience configuring and managing high-end routers; working knowledge of Packet-over-SONET and T3/DS3/OC3c/OC12c/OC48c/OC192/FE/GE interfaces and circuits and a familiarity with Layer 2 and Layer 3 MPLS VPNs; a knowledge of Layer 4 is a plus:
*Good analytical approach to problem solving; and general knowledge TCP/IP and related protocols such as FTP, TFTP, HTTP.
*Unix tools (e.g., vi, perl, tcl); Cisco NetFlow; IP Multicast.
*Must work well in a team, have good written and verbal skills, and work well in a high-energy environment.
*Understands and effectively uses AOL network-related tools, applications, work procedures.
*Performs troubleshooting of the network.
*Communicates complex information to a wide variety of individuals and groups.
*Understands specific media and various types of networks and how they function.
*Understands and can apply vendor compatibility with systems.
*Responsible for the installation, configuration, infrastructure, and maintenance of local and wide area network (LAN and WAN) and remote access systems.
*Responsible for data security of remote access systems, LAN, WAN, routers, hubs, and switches.
*Ensures monitors and switches for proper routing.
*Works independently with external provider on moderately complex issues to ensure that network stays operational and compatible.
*Analyzes network data and interprets usage for operational trends.
*Applies technical knowledge to determine solutions and solves complex problems.
*Uses experience and analysis to develop creative and innovative solutions.
*Possesses excellent analytical skills in order to understand and debug systems.
*Uses independent judgment in situations which impact own work or immediate work group.
*Makes decisions that impact the department or work unit.
*Defines task, resources, and time required to complete a small to medium size project which could involve cross-organizational work groups.
*Mentors Network Technicians.
