Principal Software Engineer

General Description:

AOL Publishing Technologies is looking for a highly senior-level software engineer to help develop publishing infrastructure systems using the latest standards and technologies to deliver highly-scalable systems to its customers. The Principal Software Engineer will be involved in the full life cycle of projects, interface with product to define technical requirements, assist in architecting and documenting the system, be part of or lead a team of software engineers to implement the system, and interface and coordinate with QA and operations to release the product. You will help AOL implement the new Dynapub publishing architecture supporting all of AOL's channels and brands.

Requirements:

* BA or BS in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics.
* 8+ years of hands-on software development experience in a professional Internet and/or Intranet environment.
* Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming and design, including design patterns.
* Highly experienced in Java and C++, including use of IDE environments.
* Experience with web applications architecture in regards to scaling and session management.
* Excellent working knowledge of SQL and XML. Experience with MySQL is desirable.
* Experience working in a Linux development environment.
* Experience working with source control systems in a collaborative environment, such as Subversion or CVS.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to discuss technical concepts with non-technical personnel.
* The ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Knowledge of AOL legacy technologies (SAPI/Bucky) is a big plus.
* Knowledge of ATOMICS, Solr/Lucence, or Mule is desirable.
* Experience with caching systems and CDNs (Akamai) is desirable.
* Enthusiasm, personality, teamwork and a positive attitude count tremendously.
