Senior Manager, US Textbooks Book Buying Amazon.com seeks a talented, driven and highly analytical manager to lead the US Textbook Buying team, the fastest growing segment of Amazon.com’s US books business.  We are still in the early phases of understanding how best to optimize and improve the way we buy and sell textbooks (and related medical/technical and professional books) and Amazon.com is a relatively small player in a very big market.  The right candidate will play a key role in helping us build this business to its full potential.  This position is responsible for leading the textbook buying team and driving, in partnership with publishers and internal teams, projects to improve textbook instocks (forecasting improvements, vendor lead time reductions, buyer tool improvements), lower the costs of product (negotiations and sourcing optimization) and improve inventory turns (ordering optimization and stock up planning).  The textbook buying manager will work closely with the books inventory management team, editorial and coop teams, books finance team, and our supply chain and retail systems software teams to drive and make material Y/Y improvements in our key metrics. This is an excellent role for talented general manager with exceptional analytical skills who also has fluency in operational processes/supply chain, negotiations, and people management.  The ideal candidate possesses excellent business judgment, 5-7 years vendor management experience or equivalent, a strong track record of successful vendor negotiations, excellent understanding of buying systems/process, strong people management and development skills, and very strong analytical skills.  The ability to use both formal and informal influencing skills across a large cross-matrix organization is critical to the success of this role.  Retail e-commerce and/or buying experience preferred.
