Senior Software Engineer-Client Networking

Netflix is expanding into delivery of movies over the Internet, and as the team is growing, we are looking for a senior engineer who has a strong background in TCP/IP networking over the Internet, and can set the direction for how Netflix should move petabytes of movies to our members computers and devices.

As a key contributor to the Internet delivery core technology group, you will take the lead on finding the best way to deliver bits reliably and in time over a network without quality-of-service guarantees. Your work will be instrumental in giving movie watching enjoyment to millions of Netflix members, make use of recent research, and involve innovative approaches that you design and implement.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, mature, self-motivated, intellectually curious individual who takes pride in creating simple, maintainable software using modern development techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES
* Design, create and maintain code modules to fetch digital movie bits over an unreliable Internet
* Find metrics that can help you bring your networking module to the next level, create code to collect them, analyze the data.
* Optimize the quality of service of the Instant Watching feature

REQUIREMENTS

* 5+ years of relevant software development experience
* Mastery of object oriented design
* Expert in Java or C++ programming
* Extensive experience with moving large numbers of bits over the Internet.
* Deep understanding of the "moving parts" of the Internet
* A Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent engineering experience
