Sr. Systems Engineer

Primary Function

InfoSpace is a company whose core business is technology. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you'll be part of a team whose primary responsibilities include; planning, designing, implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting Infospace’s Windows infrastructure. You will optimize system availability, functionality, security, and performance. You’ll also apply your leadership skills to plan major system installations and mentor others in diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software and network problems.

Essential Job Functions
• Design, configure, maintain and provide second-tier support of messaging systems based on Microsoft Exchange server, Ironport, and other industry standard systems.
• Promote system reliability and efficiency by creating and implementing system standards and operational best-practices; provide technical leadership in design and administration decisions for Infospace systems
• Facilitate the planning of system and feature upgrades, and plan & participate in scheduled off-hours service outage upgrades
• Perform and document system operations processes and procedures including installation and testing of system upgrades, failover, and configuration
• Communicate issues clearly to business and technical groups within the company.
• Enforce system and network security guidelines and procedures
Skills, Education and Experience
• Experience implementing new Windows-based technologies and understanding of associated business implications
• Understanding of the project management lifecycle and experience managing complex IT infrastructure projects required
• Minimum of 3 years Microsoft Exchange administration experience in large-scale, geographically distributed Windows environments
• Minimum of 3 years Microsoft Active Directory administration experience
• System administration & architecture design experience in geographically distributed, enterprise-class Windows server environments.
• Experience architecting and supporting messaging systems using Microsoft Exchange server; knowledge of other messaging systems, including Ironport desired.
• Experience configuring and supporting instant messaging systems using Microsoft Live Communications Server.
• Experience in developing and maintaining scripting environments such as vbscript, perl, or shell.
• Knowledge of and experience with PKI infrastructure and implementation
• Knowledge of and experience with common Windows infrastructure components such as antivirus, file services, print services, Sharepoint, Microsoft Operations Manager, Altiris, Etc.
• Ability to manage multiple IT projects & deadlines effectively
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Willingness and desire to provide guidance and mentoring to other engineers
• Ability to participate in shared 24/7 on-call schedule
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience required
• Ability to provide specific examples of past experience as detailed above
