Labor Relations Officer (Corporate)
Our client, a leader in the Transportation industry, is seeking an experienced Labor Relations professional to join thier organization.
Position Title: Labor Relations Officer (Corporate)
Department: Labor Relations
Location: Washington, DC
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Serves as company's spokesperson in meetings with unions to settle claims, grievances and engage in conflict resolution. Provide advice and counsel to internal clients, including review of disciplinary/corrective action. Conduct investigations relative to case development. Draft timely responses to contractual claims, and disciplinary grievances. Respond to inquiries regarding contract (collective bargaining agreements) interpretation. Draft briefs and make oral arguments before various third parties, including arbitration boards. Handle complex contractual interpretation issues at corporate and board level. Assist in preparation for and participation in labor negotiations with union representatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have some work experience in Labor Relations field or extensive training/experience/education in legal advocacy and dispute resolution. Prior oral advocacy experience a must. Experience in the Railroad Industry is preferred.
REQUIREMENTS:
Understanding basic labor and contract law. w/case management experience. Possess strong logical reasoning and analytical skills to evaluate relevant facts in cases, understand labor agreements and/or contractual provisions, principles of contract construction, relevant legal guidelines and correct application of these principles. Must have prior oral advocacy experience and strong research skills. Ability to produce high-quality work w/in deadlines. Work independently w/minimal supervision.
SKILLS:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess superior interpersonal skills. Ability to work with various levels of individuals throughout organization. Written sample will be required
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's in Business Administration or Industrial Relations or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Juris Doctorate preferred
