Paralegal: Spanish or Korean

Position:Health Consumer Counselor, HCC (Spanish  or Korean Required) Availability:This position is available immediately and reports to work in Pacoima. Intermittent travel between offices may be required. Salary:$29,482 - $44,195 salary commensurate with experience We offer a choice of medical plans, and a choice of dental plans, life and disability insurance, 125 plan, 403b with employer contribution, sick, vacation and 13 employer- paid holidays. Duties and  Responsibilities:

The Health Consumer Counselor is trained to provide information and legal assistance on a wide-range of issues related to health care access for low-income individuals and families. HCC is hotline-based therefore the counselor will screen and assist callers with trouble-shooting issues related to programs such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families. He/she will also provide assistance in managed health care and medical debt. Qualifications:

An ideal candidate desires to serve low-income communities. Qualified candidates must have one of the following: (1) Paralegal certificate, (2) B.A. or B.S. degree with one year experience working under the supervision of a licensed attorney, (3) High School degree with 3 years experience working under the supervision of a licensed attorney with a letter certifying experience completed prior 12/31/03. Candidate must be bilingual in Spanish or Korean.  Excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish or Korean required. Program Description:

The Health Consumer Center (HCC) is a project of Neighborhood Legal Services (NLS-LA) that provides assistance to low-income residents of Los Angeles County with access to health care issues.  HCC is also part of a statewide coalition--the Health Consumer Alliance.

NLS-LA is one of Los Angeles County's leading public interest law offices and has been the primary legal aid program serving the San Fernando Valley for over 40 years and the San Gabriel/Pomona Valleys since 2001. NLS-LA has a staff of 100+, including 40 lawyers, and provides legal assistance to low-income individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights, and environmental justice.
