Patent Attorney

Publicly traded company located in Newark, NJ is seeking a Patent Attorney to be responsible for the management of the group’s Intellectual Property portfolio and its development.

OVERVIEW:

The Intellectual Property Manager’s primary focus will be the group’s patents and patent applications, and in addition, will be required to manage trademark needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  Technical and financial evaluation of the group’s patent portfolio. Such analysis includes understanding the strength of the group’s portfolio compared to competition and takes into account relevant business drivers. He/she has the ultimate responsibility for infringement analysis of the group’s patents against third party products and businesses.

·   Ensure adequate awareness of legal requirements within the patent portfolio. Preparing patent cases for licensing negotiations, and other documents according to the business needs in collaboration with relevant business units.

·  Act as an experienced and competent contributor to a legal analysis validating claim charts and effectively present and defend those charts with the help of technical experts in negotiations.

·  Administer the group’s patent portfolio, including, maintaining up to date accurate patent database, and managing, together with outside counsel, US filing, foreign filing, and patent docketing. Both independently and together with outside patent counsel, prepare and prosecute patent applications.

·  Maintain, administer and oversee the group’s trademarks and trademark applications.

REQUIREMENTS:

·  Registered U.S. Patent Attorney with a minimum of 5 years experience with patents in corporation or patent law firm.

·  Specialist in patent law and can effectively demonstrate breadth of knowledge in this discipline.

·  Familiarity with patent administration systems, a plus.

·  Litigation and patent prosecution experience.

·  Computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent degree.

·  Fluent and comfortable in oral argumentation and negotiations.

·  Strong background in patents and understanding of patent business.

·  Analytical and conceptual thinking.

·  Good presentation & networking skills.
