Senior Associate Librarian - Law Firm

Reporting to the Information Resources Manager. Responsibilities Guided by department objectives and priorities, provides expert reference and research services. Leads and/or provides support for local and firmwide library projects and initiatives. Ensures client services and satisfaction are attained in all areas of position. Essential Functions Client Service 1. Consistently promote and model the Firm's Client Service Principles in teamwork, work product, and personal interaction. 2. Ensure exemplary client service to all internal and external clients; proactively promote client service throughout department and among teams; respond to peer requests with recognition that request serves a client or Firm need. Library Research Services 1. Applies experience and seasoned knowledge to provide sophisticated and complex legal, business, and scientific research and reference using print and online resources. 2. Proactively and independently assess user requests and ensure that research meets stated and anticipated needs. 3. Possesses advanced knowledge of databases and technology used in the library and recommends new information resources and technologies. May lead and participate in testing and evaluating new programs. 4. Educates and advises attorneys and paralegals on sources and strategies for research. Manages vendor and in-house training in local office. 5. Acts as a mentor and provide guidance to junior librarians and other library staff. 6. May provide specialized knowledge in a particular practice group. General Library Services 1. Provides expert recommendations for collection development and maintenance. 2. Proactively manages library space utilization and organization of collection. 3. Demonstrates project management skills as a part of a larger team. May function as a team leader for local and firmwide library and client projects. 4. Assesses information needs of practice groups and proactively recommends resources and solutions to practice group needs. 5. Facilitates interlibrary loan and document delivery from a wide variety of free and commercial third-party providers to complete reference assignments. Administrative Responsibilities 1. Tracks and records billable and nonbillable time spent providing reference services to clients according to the firm’s library billing policy; meets the Firm’s timenote entry deadlines. 2. Maintains accurate and timely log entries for various systems, including interlibrary loan and document delivery logs. 3. Provides management with complete and accurate documentation for all credit card purchases, deposit account transactions, and other accounting-related paperwork. Professional Development 1. Remain current in industry trends in Library and the legal profession. 2. Ensure expertise in technology relevant to the position; proactively use most current technology to further teamwork, client service, and efficiency. 3. Participate on projects that increase the value of services to clients, attorneys, timekeepers and the Firm. 4. Ensure client service and performance consistently meets Career and Compensation Management Program (“CCMP”) expectations for Matrix Level 6. 5. Regularly review position against Matrix expectations and develop goals to further increase position value.
