Senior Banking/Finance Lawyer, Bucharest, Romania

This international law firm represents a broad range of clients throughout Europe but with an emphasis on the dynamic economies of Central and Eastern Europe and, increasingly, Asia.  The firm has one of the preeminent real estate practices in the region, a well established corporate practice and an active finance practice representing both lenders and borrowers.  Its Bucharest office is recognized as a market leader in a number of sectors, and seeks to recruit a senior expatriate lawyer with both the substantive and client skills needed to move the finance practice in Romania to the next level.You will have at least 8 years of experience in bank lending and other financing transactions.  As real estate is one of this firm’s core practice areas, your experience should include financing of acquisitions of real estate companies and project financing of real estate projects, but experience with other types of lending transactions is highly valued as well.  Substantial experience in working with borrowers and lenders domiciled in and security packages governed by the law of civil law jurisdictions, in Europe is a major advantage, as is experience working with clients and other lawyers in emerging markets.   Rapid economic development in Romania and the other still-maturing markets of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe has resulted in strong demand for sophisticated bank and other types of financing transactions, as well as for the experienced, commercially oriented lawyers who can work effectively with talented local lawyers in structuring, managing and closing them.  This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with both the substantive and client relations skills to leverage this firm’s excellent regional platform and solid reputation by growing a significant financing practice.  Although the principal focus would initially be on Romania, the successful candidate will also be expected to play a regional role.Drafting and negotiating ability, an interest in emerging markets (Romania in particular),  leadership and strong marketing skills, the ability to travel if needed and fluency in English are important criteria for this role.
