Job Description:The Senior Financial Analyst accomplishes a variety of financial tasks, including: budgeting, cost accounting, profitability and general financial analysis. The senior financial analyst interacts heavily with many of the departments and functions outside of Finance and therefore must be a strong critical thinker, confident, well spoken and cable of communicating complex messages in simple fashion

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Analyzes various business units to determine profitability, growth, financial viability, client retention, and depth of cross-selling to other business units. Makes recommendations to solve complex business problems as appropriate. Acts as liaison to business units advising them as to the best approach to obtain data or analyze key business problems. Uses various technologies to mine & organize data, write reports and communicate information efficiently and effectively. Assist with various monthly reporting requirements by pulling & analyzing financial information and ensuring the timely and accurate distribution. Assists in the complete budgeting cycle as an important financial resource & advisor to major business functions such as HR, IS and the like. Helps ensure the business function complies with their respective budget & has the appropriate finance resources. Works with Financial Planning & Analysis team to develop efficient & effective processes & to determine the best ways to use technology to improve the FP&A function. Produces ad hoc and routine analyses of legal departments, geographic locations, types of business, etc., for purposes of determining scope of business, growth & profitability. Practice Group analyses as well as working side by side with Practice Group leaders to help guide & instruct on financial results. Prepares responses to law firm surveys. Prepares annual data on partner and associate compensation for use by the firm's policy committee in their year end compensation reviews.

Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: A minimum of a four year degree in finance, economics or a related field. At least 7-10 years of related experience in budgeting, cost accounting and financial planning and analysis. Must be proficient with spreadsheet and database software and have a strong sense of how to use technology effectively. Experience with business intelligence tools is helpful. Critical thinker with strong communication skills and high degree of confidence Must have a positive attitude and be able work in a self-directed manner, producing an accurate, well-documented work product. Environment is quick to change and often has multiple, time sensitive priorities. Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as strict attention to confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES: Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, including management staff and support staff. Ability to be a proactive self-starter, who can grasp the big picture while still working with the details. Must be team-oriented and able to share information, goals, opportunities, successes and failures with the appropriate parties. Must pay attention to details and have the ability to follow up and follow through.

Normal office environment. Incumbent is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
