The Texas Department of Public Safety is now accepting applications for the Recruit School beginning in September!
JOB DUTIES:
The duties of this position include a six (6) month police training course that challenges the recruit both mentally and physically, including a strenuous physical fitness program. Duties upon completion of the Academy include apprehending traffic law violators, investigating most rural traffic accidents, recovering stolen vehicles/stolen property, apprehending wanted persons, assisting other officers during emergencies, licensing, and rehabilitating Texas drivers. Performs related police duties as assigned to fulfill the responsibilities of the Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
All applicants must be citizens of the United States
Applicants must be twenty (20) years of age on the date of appointment to Trooper.
Requires graduation from a standard senior high school/vocational school or the equivalent. If using college hours only, applicants must have either an Associates Degree or 90 semester hours from an *accredited college or university.

Applicants must have attained a General Education Diploma (GED).
In addition, those applying with only a GED must have twelve (12) semester hours of college maintaining a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.

Individuals who have Law Enforcement and/or Military experience may substitute years of service for the education requirement. Use the following scale to determine your status.

Applicants must have a valid driver license and a good driving record. Any conviction or probation for a felony at any time or for a misdemeanor within ten (10) years will disqualify. Other criminal history will also be examined and may disqualify. Trooper Trainees will be required to pass a written licensing exam administered by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).
Applicants must be willing to accept assignment anywhere in the State of Texas and in any uniformed Service of the Department. When practical, consideration is given to the student's preference of Service and station.DPS has internships for qualified applicants. Interns are paid employees ($2913.75 per month) and receive insurance benefits after ninety (90) days.
The internship includes seeing many aspects of a State Troopers' job; including joining troopers while on duty, using common reports, and meeting State and local officials. The intern will also meet officials from all services of The Department including The Criminal Law Enforcement and Texas Ranger Divisions.
