Accounting Manager - Operations

As the Accounting Operations Manager of the Financial Accounting Services Team (FAST) for Concur, you will manage the internal use of our flagship Employee Spend Management solutions, Concur Expense and Concur Vendor Payment. As a leader in the Accounting Department, you will have a very unique opportunity to partner with our Product and Services Strategy team and contribute directly to the success of our product and service offerings. The FAST team serves as a test laboratory for our new service offerings and as an early adopter you will have a very unique opportunity to help drive, shape and test our future product and service offerings. Your breadth and depth of accounting and process experience will allow you to translate your findings into valuable feedback to our product/service development efforts.

You will manage a staff of three or more in Accounts Payable, Payroll, Corporate Credit Card programs and Employee Travel & Expense Reimbursement processes for our worldwide operations in the United States, Europe and Asia. The position reports to the Director of Corporate Accounting and Reporting.


• As the Accounting Operations Manager for Concur, you will manage our internal use of our Employee Expense Reimbursement and Vendor Payment solutions as well as the Accounts Payable and Payroll functions:
o As described above, the FAST team is Concur’s “flagship customer,” and as a result you will be an early adopter of our new services that we later offer to our customers.
o You will manage a staff of three or more and cross-functional business projects spanning large portions of the Company.
o Supervisory as well as hands-on payroll and employee expense responsibilities include both domestic and international operations.
o Lead the investigation and resolution of international payroll, tax and benefits issues including the opening of new markets internationally. Serve as a liaison between the company and international third party accounting services providers (e.g. international, benefits administration and payroll services).
o Responsible for all year-end tax reporting relating to payables and payroll, including US forms 1099 and W9.
• Cross-functional Business Partner:
o As an early adopter of our customer facing services, you will have a very unique opportunity to help drive, shape and test our future product and service offerings and to provide valuable feedback to our development efforts.
o The role will have strong working relationships with our Product & Services Strategy team, Research and Development, and the Customer Implementation team. Your well developed communication skills will be used to communicate strategic and tactical opportunities for improvement to our service offerings to our customers.
o Business Process Improvements: Recommend and pursue cross-functional business process improvements to speed up the monthly and quarterly close processes, while ensuring the integrity of the consolidated financial statements.
• Product Management and Business Process Improvement:
o Functional Business Owner – Payables, Employee Expense and Payroll systems: Serve as functional business owner for these strategic company assets. Maintain high level of understanding of best-in-class operations through continuing education, benchmarking sessions, user conferences and internal cross-functional partnerships.
o Develop thorough understanding of the capabilities and shortcomings of existing systems and applications.
o Identify opportunities to leverage and scale our ERP investment in Oracle and other related financial systems.
o Identify and implement opportunities for ongoing business process improvement to improve accuracy and efficiency of our operation and provide outstanding customer service to the rest of the Company.


• Accounting Close and Analysis:
o Oversee preparation of monthly accruals and account reconciliations in support of the monthly and quarterly accounting close and audit processes. Develop accounting processes to ensure completeness and reliability of all related accruals. Ensure all related accounts are timely and accurately reviewed and reconciled to ensure the integrity of the corporate financial records. Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by extended staff.
o Prepare monthly and quarterly expense account analysis in support of the Corporate Accounting team and the fluctuation review process. Prepare and present findings to Controller and Chief Financial Officer on a monthly basis.
• Controls
o Ensure consistent and robust worldwide compliance with all required accounting policies and controls.
o Develop, implement, maintain and test systems, procedures, policies and internal controls to effectively and efficiently account for company transactions in accordance with GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley. Identify risk areas and take action to mitigate risk.
o Coordinate and manage the production of all FAST team SOX deliverables.
o Assist internal and external auditors as required.
• Training:
o Prepare and present training materials relating to FAST team processes to our managers and employees worldwide. Explain to the Company how the processes should work and how any questions and issues are to be handled. Provide educational materials regarding how costs are to be categorized and recorded.
• Reporting:
o Develop production and ad-hoc financial reporting tools and solutions in coordination with Financial Planning & Analysis and the Finance Systems team to ensure appropriate financial information is available to our employees and managers in a timely and efficient manner. Example: report of monthly accounts payable activity to all department managers.
• Other:
o Recruit, develop, mentor retain high caliber staff.
o Special projects as assigned.
o Be aware of, and comply with, all corporate policies.

Education, Experience & Training required:
• • BA/BS in Accounting preferred. Strong experience in payables will be considered in liu of a formal Accounting degree.
• Working knowledge and hands on experience with payables functions that include knowledge of US and international payroll requirements preferred.
• Minimum 3 years management or lead experience, preferably in the software or services industries
• Strong working knowledge of ERP Systems and enterprise data management: 3+ years experience as functional business owner working with Accounts Payable and finance / accounting modules of “first tier” ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, Peoplesoft, etc. Experienced working cross-functionally with Finance System teams or I.T. regarding modifications, enhancements, implementations and conversions of such systems. Oracle experience strongly preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of internal controls and the ability to exercise sound judgment in the evaluation of the reasonableness of processes and controls
• Excellent project management skills. Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty in a dynamic environment. Attention to detail and the ability to work within deadlines.
• Ability to motivate within a fast-paced, rapidly changing transaction environment.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to pass a background check.
