The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking candidates for the position of Director for the Central NY & Rochester markets. The successful candidate will bring knowledge of the Syracuse market, possess the ability to expand ADA's sphere of influence and have demonstrated success in coaching a team in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment. Key responsibilities include building the Volunteer Leadership Board, developing corporate relationships and engaging community volunteers and staff to plan and execute special events and community outreach. Our fundraising activities include ADA's signature events: Step Up to Fight Diabetes (walk events), Tour de Cure (cycling events), and our School Walk program.

In addition, the Director is responsible for participating in the strategic planning process, managing a budget of $1.4 million with teams on divisional and national levels (major gifts, corporate development and advocacy).

This position requires leadership, creative planning and management skills. Qualified candidates should have a proven track record of planning and executing special events that have raised six figures or more. Successful implementation of walk related activities a plus. Strong presentation skills, oral and written are a requirement. Individual must have demonstrated success in coaching staff in a sales oriented environment. Exemplary attention to detail and ability to manage multiple activities necessary. The Director will oversee 7 staff people. This position reports to the Executive Director of Upstate NY.



* Bachelor's degree required
* Five consecutive years of similar work experience
* Demonstrated experience of coaching and leading a team to success
* Experience with income and expense procedures and reporting
* Familiarity with financial reports and analysis
* Ability to travel extensively in the Syracuse, Rochester & Utica markets
* Some early mornings/evenings/weekends required
* Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
