Geneticist/Microbiologist
American Science and Technology, a small but rapidly growing company, seeks a molecular geneticist to play a key role in the development and implementation of the company’s renewable fuels R&D. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the company’s enzyme development and improvement efforts. Working knowledge of advanced molecular biology, metabolic engineering, and strain development techniques is required. Skills in routine analysis by HPLC and previous experience with enzyme development and purification are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Depending upon past experiences, these individuals will be responsible and involved in the following tasks:
Initiating and conducting R&D projects from inception to completion,
Setting up the laboratory;
Isolation and purification of enzymes; and
Technology deployment.
Requirements
PhD degree in Microbiology, Molecular biology, Biochemistry, or related areas: postdoctoral and/or industrial experience preferred. (M.S. degree with minimum of 5 years related industrial experience will be considered as well)
Proficiency with standard molecular biology techniques, microbial transformation methodology, strain construction, gene knockouts etc.
Well honed analytical skills and computer proficiency.
Excellent time management capabilities, including the ability to prioritize diverse tasks within the overall context of a fast-moving project.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to present clear and concise data from experimental results.
The desire and ability to be a team player, along with the skills necessary to be a key project team member and to coordinate effectively with different research teams.
Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, function independently and multi-task with minimal direction.
The desire and ability to train and guide multiple Research Associates.
