ZS Associates’ marketing strategy is based on developing exceptional content that can be leveraged to position the firm’s consultants as thought leaders and expert in implementing sales and marketing effectiveness strategies for companies around the globe. Reporting to the Global Marketing Manager, the Communication Specialist will play a critical role in executing this strategy.
The Communication Specialist serves as the primary project manager and point of contact for development of ZS’ “key communications” such as white papers, by-lined articles, internal/external newsletters, web site and other print and electronic publications. The Specialist acts as the lead writer and editor, collaborating with subject matter experts, practice area leaders, client team members, marketing team members and other key stakeholders to develop knowledge publications and products. The role leads and contributes to special projects as assigned.
The Communication Specialist manages multiple editorial projects and small project teams to support knowledge development initiatives for industry practices, service practices, and firm leadership. The person in this role understands and adheres to editorial quality standards and guidelines relevant to internal and external ZS publications.
Job Objectives
Thought Leadership and Content Development (Writing & Editing)
· Produce an extensive array of original knowledge content for various audiences that maps to specific ZS industry or technical sector goals. Content may include white papers, by-lined articles, thought leadership publications, industry and technical reports, book chapters, interview-based feature stories, marketing materials and web content
· Consult with authors before, during and after the writing phase of a project to assist them in planning the logical organization, style, voice, structure, format and other aspects of their content
· Develop article abstracts, outlines, drafts, refined drafts and final polished content
· Provide editorial support and guidance for various forms of business content
Project Management & Marketing Support
· Gather internal feedback and monitor demand for writing and editorial services; report feedback regularly to the Marketing Manager
· Collaborate with ZS' marketing leaders, thought leaders, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to develop and execute strategic knowledge development workplans
· Manage the content development process across multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely production of high quality materials to support the firm’s marketing strategy
· Support public relations activities by serving as a thought leadership and content resource, interacting with the firm’s PR agency and helping drive media coverage
Job Requirements
· Undergraduate degree required (Degree in marketing, business writing or marketing/sales related disciplines preferred)
· Minimum 8 years work experience and 3 years project management experience
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Proven ability to synthesize large amounts of research and information into succinct text
· Proven ability to think creatively in response to diverse demands and projects
· Proven ability to build consensus across diverse perspectives
· Proven ability to multitask, exhibit flexibility and remain responsive as demands change
· Effective project and team management skills
· Experience conducting compelling interviews with influential people and synthesizing the information into meaningful prose
· Professional services experience preferred
· Newspaper reporting, publishing house editing, or feature writing experience desirable
· Web content development, Wiki/blog/podcasting experience, Adobe InDesign and InCopy experience a plus
Travel Required: 10 - 20%
