The Driector of Volunteer Services provides corporate level oversight of LifePath Hospice (LH) and Good Shepherd Hospice (GSH) volunteer services; provides support, education and direction for all departments regarding volunteer service needs and issues; promotes volunteer services and excellence in hospice care by assuring that volunteer practice standards are met (ACHA, Joint Commission, etc.); affirms and assists in ensuring that quality volunteer services are provided for LH/GSH patients/families.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Practice/Hospice Care:
Integrate the strategic plan of volunteer services with all Company departments.
Work with Clinical Administrators and department managers/directors to develop Volunteer Services within LHPC and the community.
Assist in monitoring of the Performance Improvement Plans for Volunteer practices.
Assist Marketing with quarterly newsletter.
Serve as consultant to Company staff in developing and maintaining all volunteer roles throughout all Company departments including Grief Center, Thrift Store(s), Special Events and patient care.
Collaborate with marketing department to develop materials promoting Company volunteer opportunities.
Ensure all volunteer programs adhere to regulatory and corporate compliance guidelines.
Consultation:
Provide consultation to site directors, clinical administrators and executive directors regarding Company volunteerism.
Education/Orientation/Preceptor Program:
Act as consultant to Clinical Administrators and department managers/directors in understanding recruitment, training, management, utilization and retention of volunteers for various Company programs.
Provide consultation regarding the development of clinical orientation and competency programs.
Develop methods to enhance recruitment and provide adequate volunteer screening.
Develop and update volunteer training manuals.
Evaluate and assist in updating volunteer training program curriculums.
Evaluation:
Evaluate volunteer utilization and identify gaps in service, including monitoring Medicare’s 5% COP requirement..
Research opportunities to enhance volunteer programs.
Evaluate outcomes for volunteer programs.
Develop and administer monthly reporting mechanism and quarterly data collection for all volunteer programs.
esearch and Development:
Develop policies and procedures that reflect volunteer service and practice.
Evaluate current research findings for volunteerism and determine efficacy in practice setting.
Assist colleagues in research efforts.
Conduct own research and submit for publication and/or presentation in local, state and national arenas.
Professional Development:
Identify needs and seek direction in identification of needs to maintain expertise and keep current with health care trends and volunteer practices.
Represent Company volunteer discipline at local, state and national level.
Provide consultation to Clinical Administrators and department managers/directors for systematic evaluation of their staff’s practice of volunteer utilization.
Other:
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Support Services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of accredited college/university. Bachelor’s degree in human services related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Five (5) years experience in volunteer administration with two (2) years experience in a health care setting preferred.
Hospice or health care experience preferred.
Experience in program planning.
In-depth, current knowledge in area of specialty and the ability to translate professional and organizational goals into effective programs.
Strong interpersonal skills, communication, collaboration and conflict resolution.
Ability to organize resources appropriately and to work with other disciplines within the organization
Must have a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
Ability to travel to off-site locations.
Ability to work independently, exercising discretion and independent judgment.
