Area Manager

DUTIES:

The Area Manager position reports to the Assistant Plant Manager and is responsible for the direction of either manufacturing or distribution activities to provide manufactured and distributed products.  Oversee the daily activities of supervisors, operation specialists and contract employees in a shift operation.  Responsible for employee safety, quality, inventory accuracy, customer service and productivity programs. Manage manufacturing and shipping schedules to ensure on-time delivery of multiple, line sequence just-in-time product orders for the Peterbilt and Kenworth truck plants as well as aftermarket customers.

In conjunction with human resources, ensure appropriate hiring, orientation, training, performance reviews, counseling and disciplinary action of employees.  Assist in the research, document preparation, coordination and direction of major plant projects involving cost reduction and new product manufacturing set up and implementation.  Champion multiple 5Y, Lean and Six Sigma projects.

Ensure local compliance with Dynacraft quality programs.  Maintain quality standards per ISO 9001 requirements.

Control monthly operating expenses and maintain necessary records and documentation.  Assist in devising, reviewing, and implementing methods for improving productivity and efficiency.  Manage logistics/returnable container deployment administration.

Maintain effective communication as needed.  Act as a liaison between departments to ensure maximum cost savings and efficient manufacturing and distribution operations.

Ensure compliance with division/corporate policies and procedures.  Have the ability to coach and develop all levels of employees.

Qualified applicants must have demonstrated leadership capabilities and proven ability to supervise employees; proven ability to develop employees through coaching and mentoring; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to initiate and lead change through continual process improvements and ability to operate and actively participate in a team oriented environment.

EDUCATION /TRAINING DESIRED:

Experience in a non-union facility preferred.  Six Sigma training and TS 16949 experience a plus.

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, engineering or other appropriate field with three or more years of supervisory experience.

Candidates must have a thorough understanding of production facilities, assembly and distribution operations and heavy-duty truck knowledge.
