Associate Buyer - Supply Chain Management, Elliott Company

Elliott Company, a global leader in the design, manufacture and maintenance of turbomachinery including steam turbines and air and gas compressors, has an immediate need for an associate buyer for its Industrial Products business unit.  The position requires a BS in Business or Logistics.  Candidate must possess excellent communication skills, computer knowledge, mechanical aptitude, the ability to understand drawings and honed negotiating skills.  Preferred personal traits are a solid work ethic and a strong sense of accountability.  Previous related experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus. 

 

The Buyer is responsible for ensuring the procurement of quality products from the best possible sources, within the delivery requirements at the lowest cost to the Company.  The Buyer has the authority and responsibility to make purchases and he or she maintains a complete list of vendors that have been qualified to do business with Elliott.

 

The Buyer negotiates all contacts with outside contractors. The Buyer receives, reviews and accepts evidence of applicable certificate of insurance produced by the sub contractor.  The general function of the Buyer is to purchase materials, equipment, supplies and services at the most economical cost to the Company, taking into consideration quality, service, price and delivery.

 

Good negotiation skills, people skills, overall communication skills and a persistent personality are necessary in this position.  Other essential skills include problem solving abilities, the ability to meet deadlines, product research abilities and the ability to select appropriate suppliers to meet all demands.

 

The associate buyer needs a broad understanding of the business in order to purchase items that reduce operating expenses and adds value.

 

The buyers' significance to a company can be huge when measured in terms of potential savings it brings to the company and potential losses if not done correctly.

 

Understanding - The Associate Buyer needs to have an understanding of most facets of the business - it is essential to work with other departments

 

Communication - These skills are instrumental in developing supplier relationship - good negotiation and people skills are essential.

 

Creativity - Common sense, the ability to get along with people and handle more than one project at once are also important to getting the job done.

 

Involvement - Involvement in products and procedures puts a buyer in a position to buy a better and lower priced product.

 

The Associate Buyer's overall purchasing function is governed by a system of procedures intended to accomplish the routine purchasing transaction as quickly and as accurately as possible.

 

An Associate Buyer is often presented with new / unfamiliar and original situations.
