The Associate Tax Accountant is responsible for the preparation of U.S sales and use tax returns and Canadian Goods & Services Tax returns.  Maintain and update sales tax tables for all 50 states and Canada.  Maintain tax calendar for tracking all tax related due dates.  Act as a liaison between other departments to ensure that exemption certificates are collected and issued in a timely manner.  Maintain departmental confidentiality

Responsibilities:

· Responsible for the preparation of monthly multi-state sales and use tax returns using Oracle, Vertex and Excel.

· Preparation includes running Oracle and Vertex reports, reconciling sales tax due with the general ledger, entering data into Excel spreadsheets, and compiling data into tax returns for review and mailing.

· Preparation of sales tax returns, including making copies of returns and attachments, ensuring timely mailing of returns, and filing copies for audit purposes.

· Responsible for maintaining and updating the sales tax tables for all 50 states and Canada.

· Act as liaison between tax department and customer service, accounts receivable, and accounts payable to ensure that tax exemptions and credits are dealt with in a timely manner.

· Accurate and timely filing of sales tax refund claims as required.

· Maintain and monitor tax calendar tracking of all tax department due dates.

· Preparation of account analysis for all tax-related accounts on a monthly basis.

· Support the maintenance and updating of the transfer pricing documentation.

· Maintain and update valid exemption certificate files and database; including scanning of documents.

· Review and confirm the accuracy of the tax books on the Oracle fixed asset system.

· Monitor and maintain property tax accounts.

· Assist in the accurate and timely filing of corporate income tax returns.

· Maintain departmental confidentiality.

 

Qualifications:

· Two year degree in business/accounting.

· Five years experience or four year accounting degree and two years experience preferred.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong mathematical aptitude and numerical skills.

· Excellent attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.

· Strong PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet analysis, PowerPoint and database entry (MS Office preferred).

· Experience in filing sales tax returns for U.S. and Canada.

· Experience in filing property tax returns.

· Knowledge of Oracle and Vertex.
