Benefits Accountant

Advises management on the financial and accounting impact of current benefit programs and proposed design modifications under FASB, SEC, AICPA and IASB.

Coordinates and directs statutory and financial audits of domestic payroll and benefit plans through distribution of information from HR functional areas as well as outside vendors. Reviews audit reports before completion.

Ensures benefit plan financial statements are prepared in compliance with SEC, GAAP and ERISA requirements and that all benefit plan tax filings (Form 5500s and Summary Annual Reports) are completed accurately and filed timely.

Bachelors degree in accounting with 5 years related experience
Minimum 2 years experience with group health and welfare programs and extensive understanding of GAAP and benefit-related financial accounting standards
CPA highly preferred

Performs monthly US Pension trust accounting and related reconciliations and reporting of qualified and non qualified DB (DB Pension and DB SERP) Plans. Perform accounting and monthly reconciliation of qualified and non-qualified DB benefit obligations. Reviews and monitors 4-8 non-US programs. Prepare journal entries, as necessary.

Perform accounting for Union SUB plan(s) and related reporting to union, management and regulatory agencies.

Leads continuous improvement efforts by facilitating change and improve processes in order to assist in establishing and monitoring appropriate financial controls.

Serve as Finance representative on cross-divisional teams working on initiatives that impact DR’s benefit programs.

Monitors and reports the cost and trend of Human Resources programs.

Reconciles employee health and income protection deductions and DR contributions to the various benefit plans.
