CNC LATHE MACHINIST – JOB DESCRIPTION     Summary -  A contract manufacturing company, specializing in low volume machining and fabrication of components used in Nuclear, Military and Commercial Industries.  The company deals with many exotic materials such as Hastelloy, Monel, Inconel, Nickel and Titanium.  Parts range from 1 lb. to 100’s of lbs. each.  The raw material for one piece can cost cents to thousands of dollars.  Therefore it is required that this employee is a highly skilled individual.  This employee must be able to make value judgements as to the degree of effort, attention and caution required based on the degree of difficulty of the individual part.      Essential Duties and Responsibilities -  Include but are not limited to;  Sets up and operates Computer Numerical Control (CNC) lathes to machine metallic and nonmetallic parts. Reviews blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements. Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials in machines. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth/angle of cut, enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit program information. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or programs as required. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.     Supervisory Responsibilities  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.    Qualifications  Education and/or Experience – High school diploma or GED.  Five or more years of experience in a job shop environment.  Journeyman Machinist papers or trade school diploma a plus. Language Skills -  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to complete (write) routine reports, daily time sheets and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively with groups of customers or fellow employees. Mathematical Skills -  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Must have good working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and work in both Metric and English units. Computer Skills -  To perform this job and individual should be able to edit and program in G-Code and Mazatrol. Other Skills and Abilities -  Must be able to perform machine set-up pf tools and offsets; to maximize cutting speeds and feeds to prolong cutter life and reduce run time, to hold diametrical tolerances as a norm of .001/inch but be able to achieve .0002/inch or less, be able to read and understand drawings, use micrometers, depth gauges, and calipers.  Be willing to perform deburring of parts while machine is running and run multiple machines.Other Qualifications -  Must have own tools.  Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
