Commodity Manager

Surface Drilling Equipment is a division within the business area Construction and Mining Technique of the Atlas Copco Group. The division having Product Companies in Örebro, Sweden, Garland Texas, Yokohama Japan, Nanjing and Zhangjakaou China and Nasik India. The division develops, manufactures, and markets worldwide rock drilling equipment for various applications in civil engineering, quarries and open pit mines. The division focuses strongly on innovative product design and aftermarket support systems, which gives added customer value. Product Company SDE is located at the division headquarters for Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions.  Product Company SDE in Garland is looking for a Commodity Manager with the mission to continue developing the organization and improving the recently implemented new flow operation.  Product Company SDE is located at the division headquarters for Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions in Garland, TX.

 

Position Objective

 

To develop existing and find new suppliers to the SDE production and aftermarket function.

 Primary Responsibilities

 

·   Develop strategic plan to manage supply base for assigned commodities and to achieve goals of quality, delivery, and cost improvement for both production and aftermarket requirements.

·   Establish contracts and manage relationships with key suppliers to provide a stable product supply and year-over-year cost reduction.

·   Research and evaluate potential suppliers (technically and financially) to meet Atlas Copco’s needs and drive continuous improvement, including international suppliers.

·   Evaluate and monitor performance of existing SDE suppliers and take corrective action as required.

·   Consolidate supply base to best performing suppliers.

·   Understand supplier manufacturing processes and help suppliers change those processes to improve quality and reduce lead times.

·   Develop, document, and train world class business processes related to strategic sourcing.

·   Evaluate PPV and Buy to Buy and take action to meet cost targets through market analysis, supplier negotiation, and program development.

·   Monitor supplier capacity and initiate changes as required.

·   Perform make/buy analysis for potential commodity outsourcing.

·   Actively support Atlas Copco’s lead buyer world wide strategy initiatives through leadership of and/or participation on corporate teams.

·   Ensure that payment and quality issues are resolved in a timely manner.

·   Initiate and complete administrative requirements such as writing engineering change requests, loading quotations etc. as required to ensure parts, pricing and lead times are available.

·   Early involvement as a project member of different product development projects.

·   Interact with the rest of the organization to make sure that experience and knowledge contribute to the overall targets for the operation.

 Problem Solving

 

·   Position requires development of business contracts which protect Atlas Copco’s interests and meet our needs considering product cost, reliability of supply, inventory optimization, warranty recovery, and private branding.

·   Incumbent must understand manufacturing processes and be able to create solutions to improve quality and reduce lead times in the suppliers’ processes.

·   Sourcing of obsolete products requires creativity to identify options and select the best alternative considering inventory impact, cost, and customer service.

·   New product development requires selection of capable suppliers and analysis of sourcing at component versus assembly level.

 

 Experience

 

·   Broad understanding of business operations and financial analysis.

·   High level of knowledge related to business contracts.

·   Certification as Certified Purchasing Manager by ISM preferred.

·   Certification as Certified in Production and Inventory Management by APICS preferred.

·   International purchasing experience preferred.

·   BA/BS Degree required

 Additional Information

 

·   Position requires very strong communication skills to negotiate with suppliers, work effectively via teleconferences with global team members, work closely with colleagues, and present performance results to upper management.

·   Incumbent must possess exceptional integrity to handle supplier relationships objectively and to maintain confidentiality of shared information while dealing with competitive suppliers.

·   20% to 25% travel is required to visit key suppliers.
