DIRECTOR OF QUALITY ASSURANCE

With sales of more than $70 million, the company is looking for a key person in marketing to help support substantial business growth over the next 3-5 years.
Title: Director of Quality Assurance
Reports to: Vice President of Marketing
Location: Escondido, California
Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 plus full range of benefits
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Quality Assurance ensures food safety and quality of all products produced. Responsible for ensuring specifications are defined and communicated, formalizing process capability, institutionalizing process control and predictive quality process. Performs inspections of processes, employee training, compliance with applicable food laws and regulations and verifies plant HACCP plans. Defines best lab practices and provides guidance and adherence to quality policies. Actively participates in resolving customer complaints. Integral part of plant leadership team. Provides support to Sales, R&D and Operations on customer issues, questions and concerns. Manages all plant-based QA staff.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
1. Develop and implement monitoring, sampling and documentation programs to audit manufacturing of the Company’s products.
2. Develop and implement monitoring, sampling and documentation programs for raw material and packaging used in the plants.
3. Direct compliance in labeling regulation matters.
4. Keep QA related documentation organized for easy access, interpretation, and reports.
5. Serve as resource to and coordinator of specific quality programs required by specific customers or regulatory agencies. Lead each plant’s preparation for key customer audits.
6. Direct and train subordinate employees in their specific tasks and insure their understanding of safety requirements, performance requirements and company policies.
7. Take immediate action to prevent hazard to consumers or employees resulting from unsafe or unsanitary behavior or circumstances.
8. Approve all ingredients used in production and conduct audits of supplies in coordination with purchasing.
9. Audit compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and assist other departments in GMP training.
10. Responsible for contact with customer technical staff, including customer R&D staff, QA staff, and others as needed.
Required Education, Skills and Experience
BS in Food Science or related. Minimum of 10 years experience in Quality Assurance Supervision / ManagementStrong knowledge of food microbiology. Working knowledge of HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and USDA, FDA and all other applicable State and Local health and food safety codes Excellent interpersonal communications (verbal and written) with a successful and demonstrated history as team player and team leader. Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be able and willing to work flexible hours.Ability to investigate food borne illness complaints, outbreaks and interface with regulatory authorities.
Physical Requirements: Standard office environment. Ability to travel up to 25%.
