Designer Electrical (EP10944)

MAJOR PURPOSE OF POSITION

Assist engineers in those phases of product or development-engineering activities related to the creation of product designs, production drawings, schematics and bills of materials.

JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Calculate wire sizes for any model machine up to 800 volts D.C. and up to 25 KV A.C. from schematics or other information provided by engineers by using appropriate electrical codes and appropriate Bucyrus standards.

2. Participate in resolving manufacturing problems (shop or field) by working with engineers and drafting supervisors, along with persons in other departments, to research and define problems, research and prepare solutions by properly communicating with the necessary personnel .

3. Prepare single line diagrams by using schematics or information provided by engineers.

4. Size selected purchase components, presently referred to as "P" material by reviewing Bucyrus standards, vendor information and by utilizing knowledge of products.

5. Function as a leadperson on projects by providing technical supervision to drafters and layout drafters on a daily basis on individual projects that they are jointly assigned to. Work with the drafting supervisor to establish work requirements, schedules, and daily review of work activities.

6. Provide input to design improvements by providing information to the responsible engineer that shows improved functions and/or cost reduction.

7. Modify existing circuit designs due to field problems, material obsolescence, or other reasons as defined by supervisors.

8. Design cabinets, collector rings, etc. by utilizing knowledge of product, applicable electrical codes and clearances, Bucyrus Electrical Standards and by working with mechanical engineering and manufacturing when necessary.

9. Develop connection/cable diagrams, weldments and general arrangement drawings by utilizing knowledge of products, applicable electrical codes, Bucyrus Electrical Standards and producing layouts when necessary.


KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Associate degree in Electrical Technology or equivalent experience (defined in "Type and Length of Experience" for this position) .

TYPE AND LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE

Zero to Five years of drafting experience which includes at least one to three years as a layout drafter (electrical and/or mechanical) with knowledge of electrical codes would be beneficial. This is an entry level position.
