Digital Electronics Engineer

Viking Systems, Inc. (VKSY.OB) is a publicly owned designer, manufacturer and marketer of high-performance laparoscopic vision systems. The Company's flagship product is the 3Di Vision System, an advanced three-dimensional (3D) vision system used by surgeons for minimally invasive surgery (MIS).  Viking also manufactures advanced two-dimensional (2D) vision systems for targeted configurations and channels, as well as 2D cameras and components, sold through strategic partner and OEM programs. 

 

We are currently seeking a Digital Electronics Engineer.  Responsibilities include:

 

I.  PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

Digital Electronics Engineer with mixed Analog and Digital design experience. Microcontroller programming experience in C and assembly language required. FPGA programming experience in VHDL/Verilog required. Video and imaging systems experience required. Experience working in FDA or similar controlled development environment. This position is expected to participate in all aspects of the design cycle from conception to manufacture to customer support. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required for this hands on position.

 

Experience in the following is helpful: Voice control, medical device experience, Windows programming, Orcad schematic capture, familiarity with PCB design, familiarity with safety and EMC regulations.

 

 

II.  MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

·  Reviews design specifications, interprets and analyzes the electrical design requirements in preparing feasibility studies and recommending design approaches

·  Defines the electrical design requirements necessary to create all Engineering documentation including drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications

·  Designs and develops electrical interface switches, cables, connectors, etc. to be compatible with the UL, CSA, IEC 601, MDD requirements

·  Generates test procedures and designs and specifies the necessary test equipment

·  Evaluates and recommends solutions to technical production and field problems including vendor and customer support required

·  Supports the fabrication assembly and test of prototype/production hardware as required

 

III.  SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  Accepts a high degree of responsibility in assisting the Project Manager to achieve the best technical solutions, within the cost and schedule constraints of the project.  Exercises self-reliance in judgment and decision making within the guidelines of company policies and procedures, and exhibits a high level of initiative in discharging project and supervisory duties.

 

 

IV. POSITION AUTHORITY:

 

  Normally receives no instructions on routine work and general instructions on new assignments.  Interfacing involves matter of substantial importance to the company where creating or maintaining effective working relationships is the prime concern.  Solves complex technical and administrative problems.  Uses professional concepts and company policies to solve a wide range of difficult problems in an imaginative yet practical fashion.  Serves as liaison on specific projects between functional groups and customers.

 

V.  QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  BSEE or MSEE degree with a minimum of 5 years design experience in Video Engineering.  Must be proficient in using computer-based design programs and have a familiarity with software programming.  Experience in the Medical Device Industry, and particularly in state of the art Endoscopic Video ImagingTechnology, is highly desirable.

 

  Works on problems of diverse scope and analyzes design requirements or data. Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for implementing design and administrative solutions to problems.
