Director of Engineering – Gentex/Visionix

 

Gentex Corporation, an internationally recognized leader in the manufacture of sophisticated life support systems, has an immediate opening for a Director of Engineering in its Visionix Division.  Visionix is responsible for Gentex’ helmet mounted display products.

 

This position is located in our Aurora, Illinois facility. 

 

The successful candidate must possess at the minimum a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with a M.S. degree preferred.  The candidate must have a minimum of fifteen years experience in engineering working on high value complex aerospace products with multi-year development cycles.  Experience with products that utilize digital displays and optics is preferred.  The candidate must also have experience in the military avionics field, and be conversant in mechanical and optical engineering.  Experience dealing with program/project management, purchasing, cost accounting, contract administration, scheduling, and related disciplines is required. 

 

The Director of Engineering will:

 

·  Take programmatic direction from the Director, Programs and take technical direction from the Director, Technology.

·  Manage program personnel & assign to projects to accomplish required technical results within schedule and cost limits.

·  Take part in interpreting requirements (technical, schedule, cost, reporting) of each project to support supervision of and coordination with program personnel.

·  Manage technically complex single type programs by coordinating engineering development to production transition functions.

·  Review and guide engineering design activities as assigned to engineering staff.

·  Prepare for and conduct periodic design reviews and program meetings both internally and for customer(s).

·  Prepare and consolidate inputs for program administrative items including program schedules, budgets, meeting agendas/minutes, periodic status reports, customer inquiries and other program requirements.

·  Review, analyze and interpret the technical requirements contained in RFPs.

·  Write, edit and review technical sections of proposals in response to RFPs.

·  Work with staff to set and maintain standards for product development philosophy throughout the conception, design, prototyping, evaluation, qualification, manufacturing, and use phases of each product’s life cycle.

·  Travel as necessary, to accomplish interfaces and results on numerous projects.

·  Supervise and conduct the hiring, orientation and training of new employees.
