ENGINEER 1 - (Ergonomic-ESI)

Implements, and manages an ergonomic team that identifies and quantifies ergonomic risk factors; brainstorms, prototypes and implements methods to reduce risk while utilizing lean manufacturing concepts.   Genie Industries is a $2 billion (revenue) division of Terex Corporation. Genie, based in Redmond, WA, has approximately 4500 team members spread throughout the globe, though Redmond is the primary location, with 3000+ team members across the corporate campus. The parent company, Terex, is a $7.5 billion (revenue) company that manufactures, sells and services capital equipment for the mining and construction industries world wide. Terex is a Fortune 500 company, with a listed stock on the NYSE. The company is headquartered in Westport, CT.   Genie is a company with a strong safety first mentality, team based culture, respect for the individual and high integrity. The company has grown rapidly over the past four years and is in the midst of a transition from a privately held small company, to a publicly owned big company. Management desires to maintain much of the small company informality while implementing some of the large company disciplines that are required in today's environment.   Essential Functions (Listed in order of % of time) • Leads, directs and manages the Ergonomics Process Initiative for Moses Lake • Manages the Risk Priority Management (RPM) computer database for Moses Lake • Conducts station by station assessments of ergonomic and safety risk factors and ensures entry into RPM • Prioritizes stations based on risk factors and implements improvement plan • Brainstorms ergonomic/safety improvement ideas utilizing ‘seven ways' methodology • Implements and monitors status of improvements • Ensures lean concepts are applied on all implemented improvements • Periodically updates management on identified ergonomic risk factors, status of improvement milestones, and additional resources required for successful improvement implementation • Meets with Area Managers to ensure safety/ergonomic concerns are being addressed and provides periodic status updates • Coordinates improvement ideas and lessons learned with other ergonomic process leads throughout Genie    Knowledge and Skills Requires manufacturing knowledge and the ability to reduce safety and ergonomic risk. Requires understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Requires a willingness to be hands-on and to get dirty. Requires a thorough knowledge of lean tools and methodologies. Requires well-developed writing and verbal skills sufficient to clearly and succinctly communicate and drive improvements. Requires skill in identifying training needs and developing training plans.    Abilities Requires high energy and strong leadership (not management) ability of a team to aggressively pursue ergonomic risk reduction. Requires imaginative ability to see a complex problem and envision the most effective and least complex solution, avoiding ‘catalog engineering' solutions when at all possible. Requires the ability to work with all levels of management, from assembly worker to plant supervisor.    Working Conditions Typically works ~50% of time on plant floor, ~50% of time in office setting utilizing a computer.    Education and Experience B.S. in an Engineering Field (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial) or equivalent experience. Experience in directly leading 4 or more people in a non-office environment.
