ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

Job Description:  This position is responsible for design, construction and optimization of environmental and industrial processes. Develops and implements environmental policies and procedures consistent with all federal, state and local regulations. Integrates procedures and performance measures into Genie Environmental Management System (EMS), provides training to managers and manufacturing engineers on design for environment. Assists production team in optimizing manufacturing processes consistent with the pollution prevention hierarchy. Assists EH&S coordinators and techs in implementing EMS, process development, reducing costs and avoiding regulations. Performs process and environmental cost analysis. Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide engineering support for permit application to federal, state and local agencies. • Develop, implement and optimize processes and policies to meet environmental requirements. • Assist with program development, design, and implement employee-training programs to ensure that team members are aware of their environmental responsibilities. • Supervise the work of environmental contractors and consultants. • Assist Environmental Techs to implement EMS and resolve environmental and process issues. • Interpret environmental regulations as they may affect plants and provide recommendations to environmental coordinators and Plant Managers. • Perform manufacturing engineering duties for chemical processes consistent with the pollution prevention hierarchy. • Prepare or review engineering reports prior to submitting to the appropriate agencies. • Identify Pollution Control equipment, cost justifications, and prepare installation plans. • Prepare and review environmental correspondence to regulatory agencies. • Assist in the investigation of environmental complaints, regulatory orders and citations. • Develop systems for assuring compliance at each facility. • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with the operations schedule.     Qualifications: • BS in Chemical/ Mechanical/Environmental/Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field • Five years experience working as an Environmental Coordinator or equivalent preferred. • Proven ability to work with and supervise teams. • Experience with wastewater treatment, pollution prevention, water conservation, hazardous/dangerous waste handling procedures, and metal finishing processes. • Knowledge of CAA, CWA, SEPA, OSHA/WISHA, EPCRA, CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, SARA and analogous state and local regulations. • Ability to read process schematics, electrical schematics and blueprints. • Excellent problem solving, interpersonal and communications skills. • A good understanding of environmental processes and procedures. • Ability to work any shift, long hours, and be on call 24 hours a day. • Proven record of good attendance. • Must keep all certifications and licenses current by maintaining required continuing education credits. Must have or be able to acquire First Aid, CPR and 40 HAZWOPER Training. • Strong knowledge of MS Word ®, MS Excel®, and MS Powerpoint® required. MS Access a plus.
