Engineering Manager I

MSA (Mine Safety Appliances Company) is the global leader in the development, manufacture, and supply of sophisticated safety products, instruments, and services that protect people’s health, safety, and the environment.  Our company has an immediate need for an Engineering Manager at our Cranberry Township, PA facility.

This position will report to the Protection Products Engineering Manager and will provide management and overall technical leadership to the Head/Eye/Face Protection product development group.  The successful applicant will be expected to be a hands-on leader in development of successful head, eye, and face protection products for industrial, consumer and fire service applications. 

 

Duties and responsibilities include:

· Be responsible and accountable for the quality of new HEF product designs.  Ensure that voice-of-the-customer requirements are identified and met.

· Direct the day-to-day activities of engineers, designer/drafters, and technicians to accomplish PG goals and objectives.

· Establish and monitor NPD goals, including time-to market, product cost versus target and project spending versus budget.

· Apply project management tools and DFSS to meet project schedule, budgets, and customer requirements and to manage technical risks.

· Participate with the HEF Global Steering Group in the strategy development for Head, Eye and Face Protection products for industrial, consumer and fire service markets.  Be responsible for the estimation of engineering resources and budget in support of the development of annual NPD project portfolios.  Advise the GSG on issues of technical feasibility, agency approval requirements and time-to-market.

· Allocate resources to effectively execute the HEF project portfolio.

· Prepare project reports for distribution to Executive management.  Deliver oral presentations to a variety internal and external customers and stakeholders.  Effectively communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences.

Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:

· Proven ability to manage and lead NPD teams.

· Proven track record in developing and launching new products on time and under budget while meeting or exceeding customer requirements.

· Strong focus on customer fulfillment. Driven by completion of tasks to ensure our customers on-time delivery of new MSA products meets or exceeds expectations.

· Ability to understand and utilize state-of-the-art enabling technologies in materials, design and manufacturing processes in the development of innovative products for head, eye and face protection.

· Highly-developed interpersonal skills enabling collaboration with associates at all levels of MSA.  Excellent team-building skills.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Good organizational and multi-tasking skills are necessary for success.

Education and experience required:

· B.S. in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred)

· A minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in new product development and project management. 

Preferred:

· M.S in Mechanical Engineering or Masters in Business Administration

· PE preferred
