ENGINEERING MODEL MAKER

 POSITION BASIC PURPOSE

Support all Ferraz Shawmut teams in order to meet their objectives, with design and fabrication of tool & die, jigs & fixtures, as well as the design and the fabrication of parts as required. 

 

  CONTEXT OF THE POSITION AND MAJOR CHALLENGES

·  Design tools & dies for R & D function.

·  Work from rough sketches, preliminary drawings, and/or verbal discussions with Engineers.

·  Team up with Fuse Designers to review new projects before being worked on.

·  Make suggestions to improve concept, tooling, or methods of fabrication plus issue estimates from time to complete project.

·  Ensure that related work orders reflect pertinent information discussed during project review.

·  Design tools, dies, or fixtures necessary to implement new projects or to improve existing methods within the Model Shop.

·  Work with Engineers and assist with designing new products or related tooling towards new prototype work.

·  Work with Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering on development tooling.

 

  DIMENSIONS OF THE POSITION

·  Support both DDT teams and Manufacturing Engineering team on all projects.

·  Support Marketing teams.

·  Support Test Labs.

To contribute to the support of the design teams to meet their goals

To contribute to the support of the machine design group to meet their deadlines

To contribute to the support of the test lab to meet their customers demands.

 

 MEANS

Needs fully equipped machine shop that includes welding and soldering station, and a CAD system.

  MEASUREMENT CRITERIA

 

·  Number of jobs completed on schedule or ahead of schedule.

·  Customer satisfaction.

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES)

 

·  A.S. Degree or equivalent.

·  Ten plus years of metal cutting experience.

·  Experience making & designing tools & dies

·  CAD Experience, ( Cadra and or Solid Works )

·  CNC Experience

·  Experience with Milling and Turning Equipment, Welding and soldering.

·  Familiarity with Drafting.

·  Familiarity with Machine Shop Practices

·  Blueprint Reading
