The Environmental Health & Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, and maintaining safety, environmental and fire protection programs to comply with Division, Corporate, Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other regulatory agencies, to ensure a safe and healthy work place and environment, and to help reduce or eliminate industrial accidents and health hazards for the V. Mueller and Special Procedures business units.
Develop and maintain optimum degree of risk elimination and/or control at plant assigned through training, coordinating, and implementation of programs, and recommendations to plant management and support personnelAdvise plant management of all federal and state regulatory requirements as well as corporate and division standards and objectivesDetermine areas of potential safety and/or environmental risk and makes recommendations for corrective actionManage OSHA compliance programsManage all environmental permitting, testing and reportingManage and coordinate hazardous waste and emergency response programsManage Material Safety Data Sheet requirements and associated Hazardous Materials Identification System (HMIS) rating & labeling programsDevelop and implement safety training programs for employees and supervisorsKeep abreast of continuous legal changes and technical developments (including environmental) in the field of industrial safety and environmental compliance by attending outside training seminars and reading current literatureReview, investigate and analyze all industrial accidents to determine the actual causes, and ensures that action is taken to prevent the reoccurrence of similar accidentsAct as the liaison between government regulatory agencies and follows up on any recommendations brought forth during formal or informal inspectionsAs required, interface with all levels of plant management, federal and state agencies, external companies, industries and associations to ensure up-to-date programs and to maintain current and complete perspective on new and changing and ever-changing regulatory issuesCoordinate compliance to Division and Corporate requirements at the plantConduct risk assessment on new and/or upgraded processes, machinery, and equipmentConduct audits of facility and ground to ensure all safety and environmental policies and procedures are in place, and identifies discrepancies to ensure complianceEnsure appropriate records administrationEnsure adequate safety and environmental programs are in place to protect employees and propertyPromote safety awareness among all plant personnelDevelop and coordinates the implementation of fire and environmental protection procedures, as well as evacuation proceduresComplete project work as assigned by direct or dotted line reporting structure HR Manager requiring research, analysis, and judgmentThorough knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environmental fieldExcellent written and verbal communications skillsAbility to communicate policies and procedures on all levelsAbility to train safety and environmental topics to all employeesAnalyze and develop solutions to complex problemsManage areas of responsibility within budget constraintsCollege graduate or equivalency; degree in H/S, Environmental Engineering preferred. Ability to write and communicate effectivelyAbility to recognize, analyze and solve problems involving H/S or Environmental issuesSubmit to and pass an annual drug screenSelf-motivated Ability to work independently as well as with a team5-7 years experience in primary role for Environmental and Safety site manager
