Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer
DENSO Wireless Systems America, Inc., an Original Equipment Manufacturer of automotive navigation systems and automotive electronics, is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Engineer to join our Facilities team.
Job Purpose
Responsible to oversee activities in support of DWAM safety functions. Ensures a continuous safe working environment to achieve zero accidents and injuries. Develop and implement programs, policies, and procedures and ensure compliance with State, Federal, and Local regulations and laws pertaining to Health & Safety. Achieve “Safety First” mindset with all associates.
Essential Functions
· Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure continuous safe working conditions in accordance with State, Federal, and Local laws and regulations. Strive to achieve Zero Accident / lost time injuries.
· Interface with government agencies during inspections. Achieve a higher level of safety recognition from Cal OSHA.
· Strengthen activities involving ergonomics with other departments including line layout and machine planning.
· Interface with NASCOM for project participation.
· Develop and lead the formation and activities of a working Safety Committee Team that provides measurable and verifiable benefits to the organization.
· Provide corporate reporting, as necessary.
· Assist is Kaizen projects related to safety.
· Develop safety training programs and train associates in safe conditions and operations.
· Some of the programs include Injury and Illness Prevention Program, Hazardous Communication Program, Safe Lifting, Lockout / Tagout, NFPA 70E Electrical Safety, Powered Lift Trucks, Industrial Hygiene, Hazwoper, Emergency Action Plan, Spill Responder Use of PPE, and other related safety functions and training.
· Support and provide audit assistance for ISO14001 programs. Assist in the successful continuous certification of ISO 14001.
· Provide support in environmental and air permits.
· Provide facilities support and assist in supervision of security staff and programs.
Minimum Requirements
· Associate Degree in Industrial Hygiene or related Health and Safety field with 5-10 years related experience.
· Working knowledge of California and Federal OSHA rules and regulations, ability to develop and implement training programs and risk analysis.
· Microsoft proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
· Must have good oral and written communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
· Bachelors Degree in Industrial Hygiene or related Health and Safety field with 2-5 years related experience.
· Certified Hygienist by American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), 5 to 10 years hands-on experience with safety, industrial hygiene, and hazardous waste management.
· Previous experience with ergonomics, public health, respiratory protection programs, manufacturing, and military safety/nuclear technician.
· 40 hours Hazwoper training and CPR certification (will be provided if do not currently have).
Types of Equipment
Industrial hygiene test equipment, air sample pumps, drager system, respirator fit test, AED, air flow meters,
lift truck, pallet jack, elevated platform lift.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Ability to work any shift, lift 50 pounds occasionally, wear a respirator as required or necessary, climb ladders occasionally, bend and stoop during inspections frequently, provide first-aid to victims as required or necessary.
