Fabrication Shop Manager
Description

The Fabrication Shop Manager provides technical information, planning, control, and leadership to direct others in the evaluating and estimating for fabrication requirements for lighting fixtures, in evaluating material requirements to issue purchase orders, track, receive and stage components, meet compliance with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design requirements; and in the liaison with project personnel and client and/or owner regarding the fabrication and installation process.
Required Skills
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assisting the project staff and the client and/or owner with the evaluating and establishing equipment requirements.
· Reviewing drawings and specifications to assure compliance with design, safety and testing requirements.
· Evaluate the components with the project engineer to determine what components will be ordered through the shop and to coordinate receipt and staging of materials purchase through the project.
· Issuing purchase orders for project components and shop floor inventories to support panel fabrication activities.
· Planning and preparing a fabrication shop schedule of all known and anticipated work, based on staffing and material resources.
· Publishing a weekly resource loaded schedule for active fabrication shop orders.
· Provides safety, equipment operation and procedural training to fabrication shop staff, as needed.
· Providing project support for equipment installation, startup and troubleshooting.
· Working with project staff to coordinate and execute testing.
· Establishing, monitoring, auditing and adjusting fabrication shop order processing and tracking.
· Provide resources to prepare and issue estimates of the required materials and labor for proposed new work.
· Included proposed work in shop capacity planning.
Job Working Conditions and Environment:
This position requires flexible hours and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment in order to complete fabrications and field support activities on time and within budget. Employees are often required to work overtime, holidays, weekends and off-shifts to meet project objectives.
JOB INTERACTIONS
· The incumbent reports to the Operations Manager.
· The incumbent supervises fabrication shop staff in planning, management and delivery of functional equipment panels and related equipment.
· The incumbent works with the project manager, design engineers, technicians and other project support groups.
· The incumbent confers with owners, general contractors and others for progress reporting and problem solving on existing equipment installations and/or developing the requirements for panel fabrication projects and/or products.
· The incumbent assists others with the identification of new clients, new ways to serve existing clients, client presentations and the development of processes and tools for the creation and execution of projects.
Required Experience
JOB SPECIFICATION
Years of Experience:
The candidate must have at least ten (10) years of experience in the fabrication field with supervisory experience.
Formal Education:
The candidate for this position has associate degree or technical education in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical and business experience. A candidate with an associate degree is preferred.
Personal Skills:
· Knowledge of design principles, relevant codes, and safety standards.
· Timely and effective resolution of design issues.
· The ability to communicate and work effectively with project managers and field personnel.
· Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
· Understanding and adhering to the defined scope of work.
· Timely and effectively resolving problems and documenting the issues in an organized and detailed manner.
· Following Company procedures regarding material procurement and return; preplanning equipment and material needs.
· Accurate and prompt submission of time worked against the proper project cost codes and communicating with project superintendent, foreman, and/or office personnel to ensure accurate project cost tracking.
· Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) standards, National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) standards, Occupational Safety & Health Association (OSHA) requirements National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and other related industry standards and practices.
· Knowledge of project finances and system life cycle cost estimating.
· The ability to define, document and train others in new project development and execution processes.
