Field Service Engineer
An immediate vacancy exists for a Field Service Engineer. The position will be located in either Minneapolis, Minnesota or Chicago, Illinois. The main duties of the position are as follows:
Provides customer support including installation, diagnosis and repair, and customer training for all rheology products. Repairs, installs, calibrates and operates all currently supported rheology instrument models and accessories. Gains a working knowledge of applications for these products. Provides detailed training to customers after installation, instructing them on hardware and software operation. Prepares a variety of service reports, logs and documentation of service and repair activities. Maintains up-to-date manuals, service tools, service documentation, and other materials needed for job effectiveness.Prepares a variety of paperwork to document work in progress, completed work, and other necessary tracking paperwork; submits required paperwork on a timely basis to department management. Establishes and maintains prompt professional communications, both written and verbal, with customers and internal resources. Provides information to customers regarding service products and offerings; effectively sells service products and contracts.
The candidate will initially train, at the New Castle, Delaware facility, to conduct field service and repair on our line of thermal instruments. Upon completion of initial training, the selected candidate will train in the field with established service representatives and be assigned to their territory.
The successful candidate will have a combination of knowledge, skills and experience that would include the following:
Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a four (4) year degree in electronics and instrumentation and 6-9 years in the service, repair and installation of instruments, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior field service experience is highly desirable.Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.Demonstrated aptitude in the use of a variety of desktop computer hardware, operating systems (NT, Windows 2000, XP), and applications software, such as Microsoft Excel®, Word®, PowerPoint®, and Outlook®. Working knowledge of networking also highly desirable.Ability to organize and prioritize work activities and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to make practical decisions without appreciable direction or advance preparation. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively deal with customers and co-workers. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel both by ground and air carrier. Must possess a valid credit card with sufficient credit limit (expenses reimbursed biweekly). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift instruments and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds; and travel 70-80% of the time, by both air and ground carrier, within assigned territory to make service calls. Some work is performed at a workbench requiring the employee to either stand or sit on a stool for 75% to 80% of the work time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work with and around electricity, compressed gases, and liquid nitrogen. Work is routinely performed at customer sites that may require that the employee be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
