GRADING LAB MANAGER
My client is a re-known jewelry retailer signifying the embodiment of elegance and luxury. As they continue to grow, they seek to bring on board a LAB MANAGER.
The primary purpose of the GRADING LAB MANAGER position is to ensure quality standards are met for all stone related product that enters the pipeline. This includes, but is not limited to: loose colorless or colored diamonds, loose colored stones, loose pearls or mounted jewelry that contains stone product of any kind.
The secondary purpose of the GRADING LAB MANAGER is to ensure consistency of grading among the graders, to develop process flows that ensure timely delivery of stones into the production process, to keep current on treatments of stones and to keep abreast of technological changes in the industry with regards to gemological equipment.
Key Responsibilities include:
The GRADING LAB MANAGER is responsible for:
1) Ensuring that quality standards are met for all stone related items being considered for purchase or consignment.
2) The day-to-day management and hiring/training of the grading staff
3) Ensuring that there is consistency in grading among team members
4) Ensuring cross training among team members
5) That the process flows are in place and conform to all internal (Inventory Control, Internal Audit, and Security) and external (Sarbanes) regulations
6) That the team members properly follow the established process flows
7) That daily output of each team member is monitored recorded and conforms to the priorities in place at the time of grading.
8) That grading memos are done on a timely basis
9) That rejection rates and reasons are captured in the system
10) Communication with the Manager and Director on the status of memos, the rejection rate report and other supplier issues.
11) Liaising with the Coordinator- Gemstone Purchasing to ensure proper prioritization of memos and to ensure on time delivery of job bags into the production process.
The position requires interaction with:
Ø Senior Management
Ø Director/Manager- Gemstone Purchasing: Provide updates on vendor rejection rates and reason for the rejections, status of open memos, weekly updates on the output of each grader, including grading of stones, estimates, COM merchandise, status of memos
Ø Stone suppliers: rejection rates and reasons
Ø Merchandise Fulfillment: Status of deliveries into the production process
Ø Merchandise Planning: Changing of priorities for grading requirements
Ø Coordinator- Gemstone Purchasing: Grading priorities, status of late orders, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) G.G. degree.
2) Minimum of 5 years grading high quality diamonds, pearls, and colored stones
3) Minimum of 2 years in establishing/ managing a stone grading lab environment.
4) Management experience
5) Proficiency in both Word & Excel are required
6) Bachelors Degree
7) Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
5) Ability to work in a team environment and be amenable to changing priorities.
