Global Manufacturing Engineer

General Job Description:

This position is responsible for facilitating, coordinating, leading, and implementing tasks and activities associated with new product implementation and continuous engineering product improvements related to products manufactured by Pacific Rim manufacturers. This position is focused on assuring successful implementation of a design solution within Offshore Manufacturing (OSM) facilities.  The Global Manufacturing Engineer has primary responsibility for technical communications with OSM’s and ensuring product quality and documentation during the development cycle. His/Her responsibility is to ensure new product implementation within quality, cost, and time requirements.  This individual also acts as the technical liaison between the design function and the manufacturing location.  He/She will assist the manufacturer with Bill of Material development, Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s), Manufacturing feasibility, Engineering Drawing and CAD model refinement, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Project Cost Optimization, Tooling development, Packaging development, Tooling Sample Inspections, Beta Builds, Pilot Runs and First Production Runs.

 

 

Scope & Responsibilities:  Responsible for ensuring overall quality and workmanship of global manufacturing facilities as it relates to new product and the product development processes.Responsible for assembling T1, Show, and Alpha samples; functional fit of purchased parts with T1 samples; design for manufacturability, proving out manufacturability of sourced parts, components, sub-assemblies, and finished products; identify custom manufacturing equipment requirement; and conduct process trouble-shooting related to global manufacturing sourcesContribute to design reviews, implement design changes, change/track BOM’S (M); update all model/drawings for all tool mods in Pacific Rim sourcing locations.Participate in identifying global locations where their capabilities yield robust product; conduct and lead detailed cost reviews and post-mortem follow-up initiatives.  Work closely with the global manufacturing site manufacturing engineers to ensure effective communication and guidance on the technical requirements of the product. Work with design and/or the manufacturing location to resolve issues that arise during the implementation of the product.Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing in the selection of qualified vendors.Participate and contribute to cost reduction and sustaining engineering projects.



Specific Duties: Work with the designer during initial design of product and components to ensure manufacturing feasibility.Responsible for assisting in the development of OSM testing procedures.Maintain and finalize the documentation required to ensure internal history and control of product quality and definition. Oversee tooling and fixture design as required.Ensure all engineering models and drawings are maintained throughout the development cycle and finalized prior to product release.Monitor and verify the manufacturers' ability to manufacture quality products that meet Yakima’s quality standards and product specifications.Interface with suppliers for all quality, reliability, and supplier process issues. Ensure item data accuracy for all assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components for outsourced products.Monitor the evolution and modification of components and tooling as necessary.Work with the OSM to verify accurate Bill of Materials, costs, product data, and readiness for beta and pilot runs.



Qualifications:B.S degree from an accredited college/university in Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related discipline requiredMetal fabrication and finishing, injection molding, thermoforming and finished goods assembly background preferredThree (3) years experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma, ISO 9000 and manufacturing methods and procedures preferredSpeak and write English and Mandarin Chinese fluently requiredAsian bicultural preferredValid passport and able to travel to U.S. and globallyAdvanced PC’s skills: Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and Project ManagementMinimum 5 years experience in new product implementation at a manufacturing facilityMinimum 2 years experience working with Pacific Rim manufacturing companies.Experienced in the use of computer aided design software, SolidWorks preferredThree (3) years experience with MRP and product data management software preferred.Must have valid U.S. State driver’s licenseMust have valid U.S. Passport or possess an INS Green Card and able to travel unrestricted internationally
