HVAC Technician

SUMMARY: This position performs a wide variety of skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of ventilation, heating and air conditioning units related to the care and maintenance of facilities and buildings.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Determines HVAC systems proper operations.

· Inspects air conditioning units to ensure efficient operation.

· Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling units.

· Diagnoses mechanical and electrical malfunctions.

· Installs, replaces or repairs damaged equipment and calibrates thermostatic controls.

· Installs new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.

· Repairs and replaces damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air conditioning parts and equipment.

· Repairs or replaces low and high pressure liquid lines.

· Inspects and observes pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of units and makes necessary adjustments.

· Inspects and services refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs and heat pumps.

· Maintains the chilled and hot water supply systems.

· Adjusts and maintains internal electrical and electronic control systems.

· Cleans coils and blowers and checks motors and belt tensions.

· Carries out the designated procedures for seasonal start-ups and shut-downs of all HVAC equipment.

· Assembles and installs metal ductwork.

· Assists in planning and designing of new installations of heating and air conditioning systems.

· Maintains maintenance records as required by regulation.

· Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS:

· Associates degree related to heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

· 4 years of journeyman experience in heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

· Possession of a valid driver’s license.

· Possession of an EPA Refrigerant Technician universal certification.

· Valid journeyman HVAC license.

 

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

· Knowledge of principles and practices of HVAC maintenance and repair.

· Knowledge of hazard and safety practices common to the trade.

· Working knowledge of HVAC controls and safety devices.

· Knowledge of appropriate MSDS sheets, tools of the trade, materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC systems.

· Working knowledge of computerized electrical circuits and systems.

· Ability to interpret building codes and regulations.

· Ability to make estimates of required materials.

· Ability to read blueprints, floor plans and wiring diagrams.

· Knowledge of MS Office products.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to work under pressure with limited supervision.

· Ability to work as part of a team.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Exposure to dust, noise, fumes, high voltage and toxic materials.

· Heavy lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, walking and standing for prolonged periods of time.

Working in adverse weather conditions.

Ability to lift 50 lbs.
