Human Resources/Manufacturing Support Specialist

Impress North America is the mid-sized division of a worldwide metal packaging company, with a manufacturing facility in Weirton, WV.  Reporting to the Plant Manager with a close dotted line to corporate human resources, this new position performs human resources/safety support activities as well as coordination of operational continuous improvement programs.

q Coordinates employee recordkeeping, applicant/hiring processes, attendance points program, FMLA and payroll/benefits administration with Plant Administrator.

q Partners with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.

q Works closely with plant management and supervision in resolving and coaching on employee performance or disciplinary issues and  employee complaints.

q Facilitates and/or provides training including new hire orientation and safety training.

q Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.

q Works with management on hiring and termination decisions.

q Maintains working relationship with Union officials and ensures adherence to terms of labor contract and employee policies.  Supports and participates in contract negotiation sessions.

q Primary responsibility for worker’s compensation administration and execution of strategic plan to reduce incident rates.   Coordinates initial reporting and investigation, assesses claim, works closely with insurance carrier and other providers including medical services and liaisons with Corporate Safety Manager on resolving problem claims.

q Represents management in investigating, answering, and settling grievances, by arranging and scheduling grievance hearings between union personnel, supervisor and the Management team.

q Investigates employee complaints.

q Develop and administrate annual training plans/calendar.

q Coordinates skills/performance evaluation and bidding process.

q Works closely with Corporate HR in communicating on key issues and  making non-routine decisions

q Manage safety compliance and environmental program, including program updates, and is point person on annual safety audits.

q Member of safety steering and joint safety committees.

q Management representative on Observation Based Safety steering committee

q Develop safety communication and training materials.

q Member of OpEx teams.

q Manage process improvement activity calendar

q Maintain, in conjunction with Plant Administrator, vacation calendar

q Validate O.T. posting to cover vacation, temporary vacancies, work week extensions, additional production requirements, etc.

q Reconcile E-time data with actual manning and dashboard

q Special company-wide projects and as assigned to meet the vision of continuous improvement and create consistent procedures throughout company.

 

Experience, Education and Skills Needed:

q Minimum 5 years human resources generalist experience in unionized manufacturing environment.

q Manufacturing floor experience in a hands-on or administrative role.

q Experience in worker’s compensation administration.

q Minimum Bachelor’s degree in HR or related discipline.

q Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of the organization.

q Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

q Approachable style with proven problem-solving experience.

q Displays high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

q HRIS knowledge and excellent Word, Excel.
