Human Resources Rep - Senior

Headquartered in San Diego, California, U.S.A., Solar Turbines Incorporated, a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., is a leading manufacturer of industrial gas turbines with more than 11,800 units with over one billion operating hours in some 93 countries. Solar Turbines’ products include gas turbine engines (rated from 1590 to 30,000 horsepower), gas compressors, and gas turbine-powered compressor sets, mechanical-drive packages and generator sets (ranging from 1 to 23 megawatts). As the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Solar has a global network of offices and facilities to support customers with a variety of service products and programs as well as an experienced technical support team. We currently have an opening for a Senior Human Resources Representative/ Generalist.

 

This position is responsible for providing Employee Relations/Human Resources support for clients in Turbomachinery Products (TMP) production departments.

Works closely with client managers to drive and sustain improvement in the Company’s key people and metrics – safety, engagement, leadership, diversity and learning. Helps management and employees understand and work within the parameters of labor contracts, grievance procedures, etc. to assure fair and consistent application. Provides guidance in posting internal jobs and in the internal, external selection process. Supports new supervisors as they acquire the skills to lead, assimilate into the new work environment and identify and access reference materials. Coach leaders in meaningful Employee Survey follow-up, employee development planning, compensation planning, performance management, and various employee relations issues. Coach leaders to assure Solar remains in compliance with state and federal laws. Keeps up to date on the latest legislation, case law and new interpretations to help management work within the confines of the law. Completes individual assignments and participates on teams to improve HR policies and processes. Collaborate closely with customers and HR peers to optimize the service provided by all of HR. 

 

Qualifications Include the Following:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Labor Relations, Human Resources or closely related field is required. 

Qualifications beyond the degree include at least 5 years significant experience in labor relations and contract administration. 

Must demonstrate leadership and influence with all levels of management, beginning with shop floor supervisors.

Must demonstrate strong listening skills and respect for all clients. 

Excellent written, oral and presentation communications are required.

Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

Must collaborate with a variety of people, taking the initiative to reach out to others and to accomplish tasks with high quality in a time efficient manner. 

Experience with PeopleSoft or the equivalent software is a plus. 

Exposure to 6 Sigma methods and change management are a plus.
