Hydraulics Engineer
This position serves a vital role in working with suppliers in an up-front, preventative mode and also in a problem solving mode. The Lead Engineer will coordinate work load for; design reviews, corrective actions, part approvals, warranty reduction projects, and supplier evaluations. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for supplier scorecards and monthly strategy planning with Purchasing.
Duties: Assign team members to attend key platform meetings and related meetings as requested. Coordinate Hydraulic team to support Platform timing. Coordinate with Area Managers and engineers to investigate and close assigned corrective actions Provide drawing review and suggestions related to part inspection and testing. Provide input to technical specifications, engineering specifications as well as test and validation plans and programs. Provide feedback to purchasing and advanced purchasing regarding supplier selection and strategy. Assigns and performs or assists with audits for new suppliers in the field of hydraulics. Performs or coordinates any needed supplier development. Interfaces with the plants and platforms to prevent or resolve quality and delivery issues. Reviews and comments on Co-Design contracts and Design and Development Agreements. Support global product development process and new product launch utilizing the part approval process. Support current product management process to achieve profile resolution on assigned issues. Ability to mentor others. Manage warranty reduction projects with team members.
Technical expertise in hydraulics and related systems. Key hydraulic manufacturing process resource. Responsible for large, inter-regional or multi-platform assignments and projects. Manages a team of three to four specialists.
Assigns priorities for corrective actions, Part Approval activities, supplier corrective action and supplier development activities. The approach, method and processes used during platform development and launch activities.
Education: 4 year College/University technical degree with emphasis in Hydraulics (BSME, BSChE, BSTech in Hydraulics, etc) or equivalent experience – Advanced degree (master’s) desirable · 3 years in Supervision and Project Management. · Proven leadership as a team manager. · Experience: 5+ years of design experience specifically in hydraulics (pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, hoses, tubing, fittings, cleanliness, functional testing, etc); 5 years hydraulics manufacturing experience · 3 years experience in quality engineering, supplier quality engineering or quality management; Understanding and experience working with Advanced Quality Planning tools · Ability to rapidly learn and apply processes and tools. · Professional certification (CQE, CQA, CQMgr, CMfgE, etc.) and exposure to Six Sigma is preferred · Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills · Excellent computer skills: WPS, E-Viewer, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, statistical software, etc. · Ability to work with personnel at all levels of the supplier’s organization and with plants/platforms/senior management. · Ability to conduct meetings with and make presentations to platform leadership, industrial leadership, and senior management · Ability to travel.
