Maintenance Mechanic's Helper/Trainee

Position Overview:

The maintenance helper/trainee is a position that can become a maintenance mechanic at the lower level. The trainee is responsible to run errands and help the maintenance mechanics with tasks that require two people to perform. The trainee is also taught the skills needed to progress to a maintenance mechanic level in that area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for picking up parts, general errands, cleaning and organization of the shop areas, basic mechanical tasks, assisting a maintenance mechanic with tasks that require help.

• Performs weekly scale checks and maintains the records of those checks.

• Help with packaging changeovers, confined space repairs, dust collector or compressor maintenance, and the building of shipping crates in which machine parts are sent out for repairs.

• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Must possess strong mechanical aptitudes.

• Must have skills with basic hand and power tools.

• Must know common safety procedures and machine operation principles.

Education and Work Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required

• Must have excelled in another department as an operator, lead operator, set up technician, tool and die mechanic, etc.
