Manager, Production Control and Intercompany Operations

 

SUMMARY

Plans, directs, and controls activities related to Manufacturing Services in the production, scheduling, receiving of raw material, shipping of finished products, transportation and export activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Oversees the planning and coordinating with Production of short and long-range product requirements for standard and custom orders.  Develop and monitor the master production plan.Coordinate with Sales on matters related to lead time, with Engineering on new product releases, schedules, and initial production quantities.Provides scheduling procedures that allow for rush orders, or breakdowns.Analyzes and reports bottleneck and material shortages to appropriate personnel.  Recommends changes in methods or procedures to facilitate production.Maintains an awareness of new developments within the Production Department, such as the addition of new production lines or new products to assure realistic schedules.Coordinates the maintenance of finished goods inventories.Analyzes customer delivery lead times and production cycle times.  Utilizes this analysis to improve delivery efficiencies.Coordinates and adjusts production runs as required for preventive maintenance, production leveling, power shutdowns, and plant inventories to insure for timely an economical operation.Participates in regularly scheduled production control meetings to discuss scheduling, shipping, and inventory problems.  Develops and/or participates in the development of plans to resolve problems.Plans, directs and controls the sale of insulated scrap.  Analyzes and reports scrap performance plant wide.Evaluates various transportation methods to assure the optimum delivery of goods and materials.Controls costs by selective routing, freight rate negotiations, pooling and other means of economizing transportation costs for Mohawk, and Phalo.  Participates in the Corporate Traffic Board.Prepares regular and special reports to management on freight movement, damage, dollar value, etc.Establishes and/or monitors a system for freight bill auditing.Plans and directs flow of air and surface traffic moving to international destinations.Supervises workers engaged in receiving and shipping freight, documentation, waybilling, assessing charges and collecting fees for shipments.Oversees invoice and shipping manifests to assure conformity to tariff and customs regulations.Contacts customs officials to effect release of incoming freight and resolve custom delays.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages supervisors who supervise employees in the Material Handling and Freight and Distribution Departments.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments.  Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or equivalent experience in a Production and Inventory Control Department. Lean Manufacturing experience is essential.

 

This position requires knowledge of manufacturing and production operations.  Must have knowledge of equipment and production capabilities, and knowledge of inventory control and scheduling procedures. Must be familiar with traffic and export regulations. Fluency in Lean practices is vital
