Manager Sanitation

This position manages the sanitation and pest management operations within the Sylvester, GA facility. As a leading expert, this position will supervise and manage the plant sanitation function for the Sylvester facility. This function supports plant sanitation in the effective use of chemicals, COP and CIP cleaning processes, sanitation equipment, valve function and design, setting standards for maintaining cleaning equipment, developing cleaning equipment PM and Calibration programs, implementing sanitation assurance initiatives, pest control and plant regulatory compliance programs for sanitation. Key Metrics: The development and implementation of sanitation programs within the facility to drive improvement in the overall sanitation program. Sanitation improvement in housekeeping and equipment cleanliness, extended cleaning request validations, sanitation chemical application, sanitation assurance/effectiveness programs, implementation of Enterprise Sanitation Policies and Procedures at the plant level, application of sanitary design standards, and delivering effective sanitation training programs to drive sanitation employee s knowledge in proper sanitation practices/procedures.Position Responsibilities1. Supervision: Directly supervises sanitation activities to ensure compliance to Enterprise Quality Sanitation Procedures and regulatory requirements (USDA/FDA/CFIS) within the plant. Meets strategic business needs by being involved in cross-functional teams within the plant to drive sanitation knowledge and improvement. Determines resources and provides technical guidance and leadership to plant personnel. 2. Technical Support: Advise management on effectiveness of routine plant sanitation and cleaning programs. Guide plants during special plant sanitation issues including microbiological and environmental control. Ensure plant follow up of Pathogen Environmental programs to detect and eliminate sources of contamination. Provide sanitary design recommendations for new and existing equipment and modification/installation of existing/new equipment. Participate in all engineering projects to ensure sanitary design aspects of the project and review/approve project for compliance with Enterprise sanitary design objectives. 3. Start-Ups: Provide sanitary design review, sanitation plan and verification procedures for new and/or modified equipment, new equipment start-ups, new product introductions, movement of equipment from one facility to another, or new product introductions to prevent problems resulting from inadequate sanitation procedures. 4. Cost Effectiveness: Develop and maintain cost effective programs and practices within the plant sanitation program. Work closely with internal and outside sanitation vendors to improve sanitation performance and costs. Track and report key metrics to measure effectiveness. 5. Problem Solving: Proactively utilize process metrics and experience to prevent problems that could affect product quality and safety. Investigate sanitation issues, which are resulting in product contamination, reduced shelf-life, or customer rejection of products. Aid in the identification of root cause and corrective actions. 6. Service Providers: Work closely with sanitation chemical providers and others to maximize technical expertise and to drive issue resolution within sanitation/pest management Acts as liaison between Preferred Chemical and Pest Management Vendors and plant to maximize services provided. 7. Education and Training: Actively participates in Enterprise sponsored training initiatives. Manages technical training for plant sanitation employees and auditors. Attend technical meetings to continually update knowledge in advances in sanitation and pest control. Conduct internal sanitation and pest control audits as needed. 8. Equipment: Provide recommendations for equipment and machinery-based change (new equipment, retrofits or design modification of existing equipment sanitary design reviews). Work closely with Engineering and equipment vendors to assure that new equipment meets sanitary design and regulatory design requirements prior to installation. Validate that equipment modifications or new equipment can effectively be cleaned and sanitized to a microbial level. 9. Policies & Procedures:Implement and maintain Enterprise Sanitation Procedures within the plant. Development of plant specific sanitation programs in compliance with Enterprise Sanitation Policies/Procedures. Track and measure key performance indicators and report out results on a monthly basis to Enterprise Sanitation Manager. 10. Pest Control: Work with preferred pest management vendors during their service visits to the facility. Assure that pest control is managed effectively by tracking, trending and reporting out results. Be the on-site resource for pest management activities and the driver of facility repairs/GMP s to prevent pest egress into the facility. 11. Hands-on-Coverage:Provide a safe work environment for all employees. Assure safety awareness and training is provided for sanitation personnel. Support safety programs within sanitation/pest management.Position Qualifications B.S. Degree, or equivalent work experience Minimum 5 years of food industrial experience in operations, Quality and/or sanitation roles. Excellent knowledge of FDA, USDA and HACCP requirements applicable to the facility. Excellent knowledge of sanitary design, sanitation and pest management in food processing. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Excellent knowledge of food manufacturing processes. Excellent understanding of food safety. Excellent relationship building skills. Excellent understanding of microbiological organisms and their impact on process design, sanitary design and sanitation.
