Position Purpose: Provide Engineering leadership and support to Fleetguard Operations for Supply base development and total cost improvement.Key Responsibilities:Provide purchasing support and leadership for major VPI programs. Coordinate upfront developmental work between Engineering, Sourcing Managers and key suppliers.Understand product components and their relationships with final product performance and design. Facilitate technical communication between project leaders and all suppliers.Provide engineering support for cost reduction/improvement projects identified by suppliers.Be able to support needs for prototype work. Locating adequate suppliers and managing the P.O. for the parts.Identify, investigate and drive implementation of other cost reduction projects that may be identified.Provide leadership and support to identification and development of new suppliers to support new technologies, as well as existing technologies.Support the release process by providing necessary documentation to insure a component can be ordered via the MRP system for pilot runs and production builds.Work with supplier to develop Total Cost of Ownership models for components representing a significant amount of total assembly cost.Provide Engineering input for Make vs. Buy opportunities.Travel to support supplier/entity issues ( ± 10%) BS degree in EngineeringIdeal candidate will have 2 - 4 years experience as a Manufacturing Engineer Cummins is an Equal Opportunity Employer
