Materials/Purchasing Manager

We currently seek a high caliber Materials/Purchasing Manager for one of our top clients. Based in Upstate, SC, you will be working for one of the world’s leading manufacturing companies.

Job Description:

Material manager for $25M process control instrument manufacturing operation. Products are mostly configured to order with multiple options (high mix/low volume). Company seeks to improve its inventory turns while reducing costs utilizing lean manufacturing tools.  The Materials Manager reports to the Director of Operations.  The Materials Manager will develop and execute strategic commodity plans, manage inventory, and support strategic initiatives.  The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a sense of urgency, ability to think strategically, and a proven record of delivering results.  The position also requires excellent problem solving, communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills.  Success will be measured through results in the areas of execution of strategic initiatives, cost out, delivery, inventory turns, supplier performance, and quality.  Success will also be measured by the ability to find, develop and retain talent within the materials organization.  Candidate should have the aptitude and interest in potentially assuming responsibility for plant operations (i.e., production) within 24 months.

 

· Drive improvement in on-time delivery and reduction in inventory through the implementation of world-class materials management processes

· Reduce price of purchased materials, inventory levels, and freight costs

· Ensure internal compliance with quality system requirements

· Share best practices & expertise with other facilities on an occasional basis

· Manage implementation of Kanban system on all parts

· Use company tools to drive continuous process improvements in on-time delivery, cost savings, inventory reduction, and Low Cost Region spend

· Drive purchase price reduction program to achieve our material cost reduction goals

· Drive Company Material Planning tools to improve responsiveness of our "pull" replenishment system

· Drive our global sourcing program with support from the Global Sourcing Manager

 

 


Job Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or other related field

· 3-5 years of purchasing or supply chain management in a lean manufacturing environment (preferably metal products)

· 2 years supervisory or management experience

· Experience using lean systems or six sigma processes in a manufacturing environment

· Experience in low volume, high materials mix environment

· Excellent negotiation, analytical and problem solving, project management, and interpersonal skills

· Demonstrated ability to deliver results, make an immediate impact, and manage by fact

 

Desired:

 

· Master’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or other related field

Industry certification -- APICS, CPIM, CPM desired
