Mechanical Designer II

 BASIC FUNCTION

 

Provide CAD design support to engineering as assigned by the CAD Supervisor..

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

 

·  Reviews and interprets specifications and drawings supplied by project engineering, architects and/or consultants.

 



·  Plans and develops detailed plans of work on assigned projects for self and others.

 

·  Coordinates efforts of drafters and junior designers assigned to projects.

 

·  Communicates with other departments as necessary to resolve any issues.  In particular coordinate with engineers and management to meet project team objectives.

 

·  Prepares detailed calculation documents with assistance from an engineer as necessary.

 

·  Prepare drawings and specifications for parts and systems.

 

·  Review and approve drawings from drafters and junior designers assigned to a project.

 

·  Prepare and release requisitions to purchasing and manufacturing (order release).

 

·  Support engineering and manufacturing by tracking project related fabrication and assembly work.

 

·  Support on-site personnel during the construction and testing phases of the project.

 

·  Perform on-site visits as necessary to field verify dimensions and right-of-ways.

 

·  Ensures compliance with project specifications.

 

·  Performs additional duties/assignments as may be required by management from time to time.

 

·  Availability to work overtime, including Saturdays, as needed

 

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

 

·  Associates Degree in a recognized CAD program.

 

·  Minimum four (4) years CAD design experience.

 

·  Understanding of sheet metal fabrication drawings including layout and design.  Preparation of weldments, prefab and assembly drawings.

 

·  Preparation of component plans and elevations, BOM development and shop releases. 

 

·  Knowledge of material handling and conveyor products ideal.

 

·  Working knowledge of AutoCAD software.

 

·  Understanding of AWS weld symbols.

 

·  Computer literacy and proficiency in Windows, AutoCad, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word and MS Project.

 

·  Strong interpersonal skills and a proven team player.
