Mechanical Engineer (projects, expansion)
SUMMARY
Provide mechanical engineering support for plant maintenance, new equipment designs/purchases, equipment modifications, troubleshooting problems, failure analysis, and overview of mechanical systems operations. Position will work closely with manufacturing and quality control personnel. Duties include process and product improvement and cost reduction programs. This is a "hands-on" position requiring a significant portion of in-plant time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Responsible for managing designs, maintenance, improvements and modifications of:
· Furnace hearth, pour extension designs and modifications
· Furnace mold, crucible designs, modifications, and repairs
· Furnace shields, feeder shelves, floors, and other “tooling”
· Provides technical support and accepts project assignments in the following areas:
· Power/Motion transmission (gear boxes, drives, screw jacks, couplings, etc.)
· Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems
· Vacuum pumps and components (valves, seals, etc.)
· Structural fabrications (i.e., decks, supports, etc.)
· Designs/Sketches of parts/components
· Safety and Environmental projects
· Lubrication requirements, techniques, and product selections
· Material handling systems
· Cooling water systems
· Coordinates with outside engineering resources, machine shops, consultants and contractors.
· Accepts Project Engineering responsibilities for assigned capital projects.
· Plan and schedule work with Foremen using plant personnel so that it can be performed efficiently and safely.
· Inspects quality of work, adherence to applicable standards, procedures, regulations, designs, etc.
· Prepares and conducts training sessions for employees.
· Assists plant personnel with troubleshooting problems and developing solutions.
· Responds to corrective action requests and accepts responsibility for implementing approved “actions”.
· Analyzes failures and develops solutions/designs to prevent recurrence.
· Travel as assigned to attend conferences and meetings, to visit suppliers, and to assist with field trials.
· Prepare reports and records promptly. Keep management, associates, and all functionally related departments informed of significant developments.
· Accepts weekend manufacturing supervision assignments.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
· BSME with minimum of three years applicable experience in a manufacturing or manufacturing support environment.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities simultaneously.
· Strong learning aptitude.
· Ability to operate independently and work in teams.
· Ability and willingness to work when needed to provide assistance and solve problems.

· Capable of handling many diversified assignments and responsibilities.
Desired:Microsoft Access and Visio skills.Experience with any continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, Lean, and TOC.Experience with CAD software (AutoCad or SolidWorks preferred)
