Melt Supervisor

 

 

A leading manufacturing company, located in the Greater York/Lancaster, PA area, is looking to hire a 3rd shift Melt Supervisor who would be responsible for the safety, production, quality and schedule performance of the Foundry Melt Department during his/her shift responsibilities.  This position would report to the Melt Manager.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

§ Prepare and monitor daily and weekly shift work plans and staffing in conjunction with Production Control

§ Supervise the third shift staff of 6 employees.

§ Monitor and assure proper staffing of trained personnel in all key operational areas of the Foundry Melt Department

§ Monitor and supervise the metal and scrap metal stockpiles and availability for melting operations

§ Work with the Metallurgy Technician to minimize scrap and/or re-pours and in monitoring and supervising the loading, melting and pouring operations.

§ Provide direct supervision as well as motivational and training support to all hourly Union employees in their department.

§ Coordinate with Production Control, Quality Control and Purchasing personnel to achieve perform-to-schedule goals.

§ Work with Maintenance and Human Resources personnel to achieve maximum production and staffing “up-time” consistent with trained manpower and equipment availability.

§ Participate in quality and safety reviews and audits to maintain, manage, and improve the ISO-9002 implementation of work procedures and policies.

§ Advise the Foundry General Supervisor of challenges, problems, improvements, ideas and opportunities that are fostered by salaried and hourly workers.

§ Must perform furnace re-lines, deal with refractory issues, melt temperatures and assure furnace life.

§ Deals with outside vendors, consultants and subcontractors in conjunction with the Purchasing Department.

§ Responsible for the hiring and training of his/her Department personnel and for use of Company resources in Quality, Safety, Engineering, Production Control and other departmental functions.

§ Establishes and monitors the compliance of all Department personnel with Company safety, quality, scheduling, maintenance and productivity policies and programs.

§ Receives direction from the Foundry Metallurgist/Metallurgy Technician as to melt quality and properties.

§ Indirect supervision from the Human Relations Manager, the Safety Manager, the Production Control Manager and the Quality Control Manager relating to policies and specific determinations relating to their areas of responsibility.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

§ Degree and/or professional certifications a major plus

§ Induction Melting experience preferred

§ Professional PC literacy skills in MS Word and Excel are required.

§ Minimum of 2-5 years of actual foundry melt department supervisory experience in a high-volume, foundry with a Union work force of at least 100 workers.

§ Work in an ISO-9002 and/or MIL-Q-9858 environment would be a major plus.
