National Purchasing Manager Simmons Bedding Company, maker of the world famous Beautyrest mattress, is actively recruiting for a National Purchasing Manager at our corporate office in Atlanta, GA. SUMMARYThe National Purchasing Manager position develops and executes supply plans that assure Simmons manufacturing facilities a continuous supply of first quality raw materials on a just-in-time basis as lowest total cost. Additionally, position will negotiate with suppliers, support Simmons manufacturing facilities, and administrate national supply agreements for assigned commodities to meet KRA objectives around Innovation, Safety, Quality, Service, and Cost. Emphasis on ability to proactively identify and resolve potential cost, quality, and supply issues for assigned commodities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; Assure Simmons manufacturing facilities a continuous supply of first quality raw materials on a just-in-time basis as lowest total cost. Support materials management function in each of 20+ manufacturing locations as required. Able to manipulate large amounts of data and perform cost/financial analysis to support make vs. buy decisions, supplier selection decisions, and supplier chargeback activities. Manage product development programs for assigned commodities. Work with New Product Development and Testing/Compliance to assure timely launch of new components/suppliers for New Product Launches. Communicate/negotiate with suppliers such that they understand/accept responsibility for performance of materials in Simmons Products. Identify and develop alternative sources of supply to manage cost and supply risks. Plan phase-in of new materials and phase-out of obsolete materials. Work with Sales/Marketing and SITE to develop and promote programs to use obsolete materials. Continuously improve supply chain performance against Innovation, Safety, Quality, Service, and Cost objectives. Develop and track cost drivers for assigned commodities. Use cost drivers as predictive tool for cost/pricing of raw materials. No direct reports. Will be expected to coach and provide feedback to Plant Materials Managers, especially new Material Managers, on an as needed basis.· Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Should have thorough, demonstrated understanding of supplier negotiation, supplier management, and managing national agreements for raw materials. Should be familiar with specifications, drawings, and bills of materials. Ability to lead a team in a project-oriented environment Must have experience using MS Excel to create detailed spreadsheets for planning Raw Materials requirements and MRP Systems to plan and order raw materials. Strong project planning, project management, implementation, and facilitation skills. Demonstrated analytical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities with orientation towards data-driven solutions Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with individuals/groups from varied backgrounds and skill levels Detail and multi-task oriented; demonstrated ability to successfully manage competing priorities. Displays sense of urgency and bias towards delivering results Strong interpersonal skills Must be willing to travel up to 20%. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree or equivalent Simmons Operations Experience (Engineering degree is a plus) Five to eight (5-8) years of relevant direct material purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in lean, multi-plant, Just-In-Time environment a plus. Experience in steel commodity management a plus. APICS or ISM certification a plus.
